Surfer and kayakers’ close encounter with humpback whales

A surfer and two kayakers had the encounter of their lives while cruising on the coast of Santa Cruz, California. They almost touched the belly of two humpback whales that emerged from the waters extremely close to them.

A low bikini-cut surfer and two kayakers were caught on an amateur camera while being splashed by two humpback whales. The surfer was close to the kayakers, paddling and talking, when all of a sudden they disappeared behind some amazing whale appearance. The whales went back in the water, letting the seagulls all cranky for being robbed of their food.

The coastguard on the Santa Cruz beach specifies that people have to stay at least a hundred yards away from the whales, otherwise it is considered “whale harassment”.  The fine for breaking that law is a little heavy on any pocket: 2,500 dollars.

The amateur footage was aired by CBS and can be seen below as well.
