Samsung Unveils Its First Tizen-Powered Phone

After several rumors and speculations and even an abort launch in Russia last year, the giant company has managed to release its first smartphone powered by the Tizen operating system. Samsung called it Samsung Z1 and the device is available in India at the price of 92 dollars. No doubt that Samsung Z1 is available at an affordable price for everyone. Z1 comes with a four-inch WVGA PLS screen, featuring a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor accompanied by 768 MB RAM. There is also a 3.1-megapixel camera on the rear and a limited VGA camera on the front.

Samsung Z1 runs version 2.3 of the Tizen operating system and it has 4GB of on-device storage, but you can put another 64GB via micro SD card. The device is also equipped with a 1500mAh battery and Samsung claims that it will play video for approximately 7 hours and has capacity for 8 hours of talk time. A great thing about this new phone is that it supports dual SIMs, so you don’t have to use two phones. Z1 comes in three different colors: black, white and wine red.

Samsung seems to be focused with this phone on entertainment, because it comes with three months free songs and movies from Indian digital entertainment websites. The president and CEO of Samsung in India, Hyun Chil Hong, declared about the Z1 has been built to “meet the unique, entertainment-focused needs of local Indian consumers.” He was referring to the “Joy Box” package that includes content from Club Samsung, but also trial access to Bot TV, Hungama.com and nextGTv.

Samsung Z1 is cheaper than the devices of Chinese firm, Xiaomi, which is very popular in India with the entry-level Redmi phones. Xiaomi sold in India over 1 million devices in its first months of business. However, Samsung Z1 will also compete with other Android-base phones. The important fact is to see how many apps will be compatible or available on the Tizen platform. Samsung has also put Tizen on its new smart TVs, and it will be interesting what other phones will be released on this platform and where else Z1 will be sold, besides India.
