To be fair, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) annual award nominations and then the Oscars are really some of the most important events in the film industry. If you’re a motion picture fan, then keeping track of these events is important.
On Wednesday, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) released its award nominations, giving fans and critics some small hints regarding the favorites for the picture that will win the Oscar. If things go the same way they did last year, when all the five cast productions SAG nominated for its cast award, got nominations in the best picture Oscar race.
For the cast award, SAG has the following nominations: “The Help”, “The Artist”, “The Descendants”, “Midnight in Paris” and “Bridesmaids”. Drama “The Help” got the most nominations, while “The Artist” was second with three. Four of these have been long-time favorites, but the fifth, “Bridesmaids” has come as a surprise.
Judd Apatow, producer of “Bridesmaids”, explains that the nomination is due to the fact that good comedy is hard. “I think actors understand how hard comedy is, and that’s why we were acknowledged”.
Demian Bichir (A Better Life), George Clooney (The Descendants), Leonardo DiCaprio (J. Edgar Hoover), Jean DuJardin (The Artist) and Brad Pitt (Moneyball) got nominated to the SAG best film male actor.
When it comes to television nominations for comedy series, ABC’s sitcom “Modern Family” is the front-runner, with five nods. Actors Ty Burrell aka Phil Dunphy, Eric Stonestreet playing Cam, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara (Claire and Gloria) got nominations to the SAG Awards for the best male and female actor.
The Comedy Series SAG nominations include 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Glee, Modern Family and The Office, all those great shows that bring joy in our everyday living.
Nominations for the drama series ensemble are “Boardwalk Empire”, “Breaking Bad”, “Dexter”, “Game of Thrones” and “The Good Wife”.
The SAG Awards are going to be handed out on January 29, five days after the release of the Oscar nominations on January 24. You can watch the SAG Awards Show from your comfy couch on TBS and TNT.
Michael C. Hall was nominated for his breathtaking role in “Dexter” and he has enough chances to repeat last year’s performance and win the SAG Award for his interpretation.
