Famous comedian Russell Brand decided to open up about a lot of things during a new interview, including his marriage to popular singer Katy Perry. The star talked about drugs and sex addiction.
So, Russell Brand opened up during an interview with US Weekly. Brand claimed that he first used heroin when he was 19 years old. Luckily, he managed to overcome the addiction, but Brand claimed that it still is not easy. “I can’t think about it too much because I start to miss it,” he said. “If you’re in pain, psychological pain, you feel like you have a knot in your tummy. If pain is a fist, heroin dives into it, opens it up and relaxes you. It feels so beautiful. It feels like a cuddle, like comfort, like being in your mother’s arms. It’s so sweet and perfect.”
The popular comedian has been sober for no less than 14 years, since the age of 27. Brand went on to say that his life included too much smoking, drinking and cocaine. “There were terrible, terrible moments of loneliness in a flat where all I had were drugs,” he said. “That was all I needed. I had a job at MTV. It went. I had a radio show. It went. Everything was going. My friends left me. Girlfriends left me. It was very scary,” the popular actor explained.
Russell Brand explained that he was saved by his then-manager and friend, Chip Sommers. He claimed that because of his addiction issues, he was easily getting into a lot of trouble with the police. This was due to shoplifting and public disturbances. “Chip Sommers said, ‘If you keep doing this, within six months, you’ll be in prison, a lunatic asylum or dead.’ In retrospect, he was right. I was six months away from a lot more trouble. I got out before I got too desperate.”
Brand also claimed that at the time when he separated from Katy Perry he was dealing with sex addiction. The two ended their marriage in 2011. Brand claimed that it was all because he did not deal with the source of his condition, which just manifested somehow differently.
