Basketball player Ron Artest was the first contestant to leave “Dancing with the Stars” (DWTS) in the premiere of the new season, which aired last night on ABC.
NBA player Ron Artest failed to impress the judges on the premiere of the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars. He and his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, presented a cha cha routine that was one of the poorest performances in the Tuesday show. The pair only got 14 points out of 30. Explaining why he was voted out, Judge Carrie Ann Inaba says that “it was sexy, but wrong for all the technical reasons.”
Along with him, the pairs that got the least points were Rob Kardashian’s and Nancy Grace’s.
After announcing the first contestant who was going to say goodbye to the show, Artest was still in a good mood. He took the chance to thank the television network airing the show, the show and his partner. “Peta was great! She was awesome”, he said.
A day after the elimination, Artest, who changed his name into Metta World Peace, admitted to Us Weekly that he was a little “disappointed” for leaving the competition so soon. “I didn’t want to leave a bad impression on TV [and be] upset and sad”, he confessed. But this experience allowed him to be a better basketball player. According to him, there is a significant difference in the field, regarding his physical condition. Artest admitted that following a week of everyday dance training, his hips felt better. He also said that even though he is off the show he has found a new passion.
“I’m off the show, but now I like dancing!” he said.
The remaining contestants are: Chaz Bono, David Arquette, J.R. Martinez, Rob Kardashian, Ricki Lake, Kristin Cavallari, Elisabetta Canalis, Nancy Grace, Hope Solo and Chyanna Phillips.
