Famous actress and singer Rita Wilson was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The star underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. To be able to focus on her health, Rita took a break from her acting career.
“I have taken a leave from the play Fish in the Dark to deal with a personal health issue. Last week, with my husband [two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks] by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma,” a statement released by the star indicated. The same statement added that Rita is now recovering.
The star revealed that she is expected to make a full recovery because she traced the condition early and had some amazing doctors to care for her. The star went to encourage women to get tested and trust their guts. The star made these claims as she actually received the bad diagnosis after asking from a second opinion, from a different pathologist, who found the invasive lobular carcinoma.
Rita claimed that people from all over the world should understand that early diagnosis can be critical in curing these types of severe diseases. Early diagnosis is key, she concluded. Rita Wilson and popular actor Tom Hanks have been married since the late 1980s. The pair has two children together. Rita claimed that she feels blessed to have the support of her husband, her friends and family.
“I feel blessed to have a loving, supportive husband, family, friends and doctors and that I am the beneficiary of advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstruction. I am getting better every day and look forward to renewed health,” she claimed. “I hope this will encourage others to get a second opinion and to trust their instincts if something doesn’t ‘feel’ right,” her message added.
Hopefully, Rita Wilson will improve her condition and will achieve a full recovery. The star’s replacement for Fish in the Dark has not been announced yet. The actress is expected to return to Broadway on May, 5.
