According to Associated Press, actress Rita Wilson has been named editor – in – chief of “Huff/Post 40”. She will be in charge of the latest Huffington Post website. The actress will direct the style and content of the new site which aims at the baby boomer generation. The announcement was made by AOL Huffington Post Media Group President and Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington, on June 16.
Rita Wilson herself is a baby boomer. The actress is 54 years old and has an editing experience that would guarantee that the content of the website will be exceptional. She was also the one to come up with the title of the website, which is set to launch in August.
Rita Wilson, who is married with Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, has played in a series of movies, sitcoms and even on Broadway. In regard with her publishing experience, she has written articles on style and health for some of the most notorious publications, such as O, The Oprah Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar.
Rita Wilson was born Margarita Ibrahimoff, on October 26 1956. Her father who was Bulgarian, decided to change his last name to Wilson, after the street they lived on. She married Tom Hanks in 1988 and together they have two children: Chet, 20, and Truman Theodore, 15. The couple met in 1981 when filming Bosom Buddies. She won a Visionary Award for My Big fat Greek Wedding in 2003. She also won the Golden Satelite Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Her new assignment as editor – in – chief will be to “oversee the vision and direction of the new site, including hiring its editor and team. She will also assign features, videos and more.
Arianna Huffington believes that Wilson’s experience and humor makes her the most fit “godmother of “Huff/Post 40 as it takes shape. As a talented actress and producer, she knows how to engage audiences and bring passion an a sense of humor to everything she does” she continued.
Rita Wilson says she was always intrigued by the “issues related to being over forty. My mom and dad always used to say ‘live begins at forty’”.
