In a recent interview to TV Guide, Top Chef contestant Richie Farina opens up about how he felt about being eliminated from the competition. The cook says that he had a feeling it he was going to go home. Read more about why he lost it during the elimination time.
When he found out he was taken out from the Top Chef contest, Richie Farina burst into tears right in the arms of fellow contestant Chris Jones. Now, in a later interview, he had the chance to explain what he went through. He says that he was “75 percent sure” that he would be the one having to say goodbye. “They liked the way Nyesha cooked her shrimp and she had one good element on her dish”, he explained, “whereas I didn’t have anything positive that was said about mine”. Farina confesses that being in the show was his dream and a lifetime opportunity, so being eliminated so quickly was “really hard and obviously really sad” for him.
Farina blames his emotions for his underseasoned dish. He says he tasted it, but at the time, his head wasn’t clear. “I knew that it wasn’t my best thing or something that tasted that good” the cook admits, but argues that there was no time to add or change anything. However, time was no something he felt he wasn’t given enough of. He insists that he was having trouble concentrating.
This is far from being the end of the road for Farina. He returns to Moto, where he is very busy. “We just filmed some stuff for CNN and we’re going out to the James Beard House tomorrow”, he says. In the meantime, he is constantly trying to improve his recipes and to create “really kick-ass food”.
