Celebrities are always expected to look their best and many famous people turn to plastic surgeries to enhance their looks. However, it seems that in some cases, celebrities made such decisions while dealing with body dysmorphia. The latest star to talk about these issues is Reid Ewing, who plays the role of Dylan Marshall in famous television series Modern Family.
Reid revealed that his battle with body dysmorphia actually made him undergo numerous plastic surgeries. The star opened up about his suffering in a blog post for The Huffington Post. “Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental illness in which a person obsesses over the way he or she looks. In my case, my looks were the only thing that mattered to me,” the talented actor shared.
Reid revealed that his severe issues with body image started when he moved to Los Angeles with the purpose to pursue a career in acting. The actor went on to say that he used to analyze pictures of himself and he believed that “no one is allowed to be this ugly. It’s unacceptable.” This is why he decided to undergo a plastic surgery at the age of only 19. The actor claimed that he got cheek implants at his doctor’s suggestion and he really thought that it would make him look better.
“I genuinely believed if I had one procedure I would suddenly look like Brad Pitt,” Reid explained. The actor went on to say that the result of the plastic surgery were far from what he expected: “the results were horrendous. The lower half of my cheeks were as hollow as a corpse’s.” Reid went on to say that his doctor informed him that he could not undergo a new intervention for at least six months, so the actor stayed in complete isolation during that time.
“For the next couple of years, I would get several more procedures with two other doctors. Each procedure would cause a new problem that I would have to fix with another procedure. Anyone who has had a run-in with bad cosmetic surgery knows this is true,” Reid went on to explain.
The struggle became extremely difficult for the star to handle. Reid explained that in 2012 he vowed that he would never undergo a cosmetic surgery again, although he continued to be extremely insecure about his looks. The actor said that he found it difficult to even feel comfortable with people looking at him. “I wish I could go back and undo all the surgeries,” the actor concluded.
