Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is now No.1 at the Box Office. The fourth adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow and his friends/ enemies has captured the attention of the audience worldwide, making the movie best of 2011 so far.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) goes in search of the Fountain of Youth, which promises many years of life to the ones that drink from its waters. But the ritual that has to be respected is far more complicated and throws the characters into dangerous waters.
The movie is now No. 1 at the box office and had the fourth highest worldwide opening of all times, summing up 346.4 million dollars. In the US it opened with 90.1 million dollars, which was a lot lower than the most successful film in the series, The Dead Man’s Chest in 2006, which opened with 135 million dollars.
There are many things that have changed from the previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies, including the director. The new director, Rob Marshall has taken over from Gore Verbinski, giving the spirit of the adventure a new dimension. Still, the style of the characters and the spectacular views are kept.
One of the delights of this fourth part is the mermaids. Created with details that enchant the vision and amaze through their realistic appearance, the fantasy characters play a key-role in this mission of the pirates. On the other hand, it was a great opportunity for a series of catwalk appearances to embody the wonders of the underwater world. One of them is the popular model Gemma Wards, who sings the mermaid song call.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides keeps a part of the cast from the other series, including Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Keith Richards and more, leaving behind characters played by Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and distributing Ian McShane in one of the leadign roles: Captain Blackbeard. One of the most impressive appearances in the movie was Penelope Cruz, who played Angelica, an ex lover of Jack’s. During the filming of the movie Penelope was pregnant and as her baby bump grew, she had to be replaced by her sister, Monica Cruz, in the long-distance scenes.
The Disney studios revealed that the adventure of the pirates will continue. Oren Avin, head of production at Disney’s, said that this would “hopefully be the first of another trilogy.”
