Famous CNN host Piers Morgan has been interviewed by the cops related to a hacking case linked to the interception of telephone voicemails. Morgan just confirmed the reports saying that he was questioned by the police.
An official statement was released by Morgan’s spokesman. He claimed that the CNN star was questioned back in December.
The CNN host attended the interview as the police required and gave his statement.
No arrest has been made on this case yet, while the Metropolitan police said that the journalist has just been interviewed at this point.
The officers are currently investigating a case of phone hacking which seems to have occurred at the Daily Mirror.
Piers Morgan, who now is a CNN host, has been the chief editor at The Daily Mirror for 9 years, between 1995 and 2004. This is one of the most important media groups in the UK as well as one of the biggest tabloids in the country.
The statement that Piers Morgan earlier gave indicates that the star knew nothing about the hacking that is believed to have occurred at The Daily Mirror. Still, his statement was called as “utterly unpersuasive” by the Judge who led the investigation.
However, every time when being asked about this subject, Piers Morgan has chosen to deny knowledge and involvement in such acts, saying that if something like this occurred at The Daily Mirror, it happened without him having an idea what was going on.
Naturally, this is not the first time when a phone hacking scandal occurs in the UK at a tabloid. Actually, a huge such scandal has previously led to arrests, as well as the closure of the Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World tabloid. Piers Morgan worked for this tabloid before moving to The Mirror at the age of 28.
The Mirror Group Newspapers refused to comment on the interrogation of Piers Morgan. It is believed that phone hacking was a commonly used technique at the newspaper during Morgan’s tenure. However, if the allegations are true or false is something that we will find out once the investigation reaches a conclusion.
