Oscar Nominations 2012 - Big Surprises !
Based on a recent report published by Huffington Post, the Oscar Nominations of the year 2012 have been announced on Tuesday morning. The prestigious event will be hosted by Billy Crystal at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California on February 26. Based on the information posted on the official website of the Academy, the majority of the nominations were received by films about films.
The favorite movie of the 84th edition remains the “Artist” due to the nomination it received for the category of Best Picture. The black and white tribute of the old Hollywood has been subject to numerous favorable reviews in the past few months. In addition, the motion picture was the most awarded at the Golden Globe Awards.
The “Artist” was nominated for four categories besides the previously mentioned one. Writer/director Michel Hazanavicius received a bid for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Jean Dujardin, the interpreter of George Valentin received a nomination as the Best Actor. Earlier this month he was also awarded a Golden Globe as the Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy. Bérénice Bejo played starlet Peppy Miller in the “Artist” and received a nomination for the category of the Best Supporting Actress.
Martin Scorsese’s 3D movie “Hugo” earned 11 nominations, whereas “The Descendants” is considered to be the other top awards contender of the show. Alexander Payne’s dramedy earned a bid for the Best Picture, the Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. After winning a Golden Globe trophy as the Best Actor in “The Descendants”, George Clooney was also nominated for this category at the Oscar.
If you are familiar with the results of the Golden Globe Awards which was held earlier in January, you will probably experience a déjà-vu while watching the list of Oscar nominees. The “Help”, for instance was nominated for more or less the same categories that it was honored at the Golden Globe ceremony, that is, Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.
There is also a fresh face among this year’s nominees. The newcomer Rooney Mara who acted in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” earned a bid for the Best Actress category.
