The former daytime TV icon Oprah Winfrey, has named herself CEO at the Oprah Winfrey Network, which she launched together with Discovery Communications, Los Angeles Times informs.
The first lady of the daytime talkshows, Oprah Winfrey, has announced she would take the position of chief executive and chief creative officer of the Oprah Winfrey Network on Wednesday, replacing the former CEO, Christina Norman. “I am ready to dedicate my full creative energy and focus as the full-time CEO of OWN,” Winfrey stated.
Since its launching in January, the Network has been changing CEO one by one. Oprah is the fourth. Christina Norman was forced to step down from the position only four months after the launching of the channel. Since her exit, two months ago, OWN has been managed by interim CEO Peter Liguori, the chief operating officer of Discovery Communications and the ex top executive at Fox. He presented the new management team which will be in charge of developing a creative plan for the network and execute it. Liguori introduced Erik Logan and Sheri Salata as two of the management team’s members. Both Logan and Salata are presidents of Harpo Studios for the moment.
Ligouri believes that the move Oprah made is the best one yet. “I look forward to a robust new season with Lisa Ling, Rosie and a number of projects that will continue building OWN’s audience, brand strength and growth,” he said.
Winfrey’s channel was launched in January, while she was working on the last shows in the talkshow that made her famous: The Oprah Winfrey Show. Having to deal with two huge plans in her life at the same time made, one of them naturally fell on second place. And it was OWN. Now, seeing that despite de struggle to get high ratings, the channel isn’t moving upwards in the prefferences of the Americans, Oprah has decided to take matters into her own hands.
OWN will debut a series of shows in the next months: Rosie, launching in October, Oprah Presents Master Class, In The Bedroom With Dr. Laura Berman, Oprah’s Next Chapter – all launching in January 2012.
