The Olsen sisters are always there whenever a fashion event is scheduled. Plus, they’ve always been the paparazzis’ special focus at every red carpet event. The two sisters are not only actresses, but fashion designers and successful businesswomen. The Olsen twins won big at CFDA awards with their women attire collection, The Row.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are two of the most popular fashionistas in the world. Their choices of attire are recreated by young women across the world. And their own women’s attire collection, The Row, won big at this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America awards (CFDA), one of the most glamorous events in the industry.
This year’s CFDA awards were held Monday night at Alice Tully Hall in New York. The event had quite the A list, with names such as Billy Reid, Joseph Altuzarra and Tommy Hilfiger to name a few. The night was quite a success for the Olsen twins, who received the Womenswear Designer of the Year award for The Row collection.
The Olsen twins’ acceptance speech for the biggest fashion prize at CFDA was simple and tight. “I’d like to thank you – you” said Mary-Kate Olsen looking at her sister, Ashley. Their luxury apparel brand won against Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler, two brands that have staggering popularity in the industry today.
However, besides the Olsen twins’ big win at the CFDA, Monday’s fashion event, often labeled as the Oscars of fashion, had another surprise. Johnny Depp was named the Fashion Icon of the Year and everybody agreed it was the best call ever.
Jessica Chastain said that Johnny Depp “sort of creates his own convention” and “doesn’t just like follow the rules. He makes the rules”. Diane Von Furstenberg almost blushed when said that Johnny Depp is simply “hot” why Busy Philipps described the actor’s style as “eclectic”. Rachel Zoe labeled Johnny Depp’s style as “eccentric, rugged…very much his own…never trying to hard, but always cool”.
The actor couldn’t make it to the CFDA to receive his Fashion Icon of the Year award, but John Waters was sent to take his place. The filmmaker said that Johnny Depp “can’t look ugly no matter how hard he tries”.
