It seems that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are willing to become parents once again. According to the latest rumors, despite the pair’s desire to welcome another child, they will not be able to use a surrogate. Allegedly, the couple’s surrogacy plan is opposed by their church.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcomed their second child through a surrogate in 2011. Radar Online talked to father Ed Steiner, who is Nicole Kidman’s priest. Father Ed Steiner is a priest at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, in Nashville. He claimed that turning to surrogacy is against the wishes of the church.
“In our tradition we would say using a surrogate should not be done. If [Nicole] were to come in and say ‘I’m thinking about this, what about it?’ I’d be duty bound to go through all the church’s teaching,” he said. Of course, the church cannot tell Nicole that she is not allowed to use a surrogate to become a mom once again, as each person has the right to make her own choice.
“A person’s choice is their choice and they have to make it according to conscience,” Father Ed Steiner said. “Our job is to help them form their conscience and then make a decision.” Of course, if Nicole and Keith go on with their rumored plan to welcome their third child through surrogacy, they will not be thrown out of the church.
“If [Nicole] or anybody did that, what do you do about the child? Well, you love it and baptize it – it’s still a child [of God],” Father Ed Steiner said. “I’ve been through it with couples and I don’t pretend to understand that need to have a child, but there are reasons the church has for what it teaches. But we don’t excommunicate over something like that. You’ve got to be really bad to be excommunicated.”
Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban have not talked about these rumors. The two have been married for no less than 10 years and they are currently organizing the ceremony of renewing their wedding vows.
