Cinematographic transfigurations of literary works of art seem to be highly popular these days. After Lev Tolstoi’s “Anna Karenina” and Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables”, the Hollywood is ready to embrace another interpretation of a well-known novel. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, “Great Gatsby” has been successfully turned into a Hollywood movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carrey Mulligan. The new trailer revealed on Friday showed Beyoncé’s contribution to the film’s soundtrack.
Judging by the looks of the trailers, no other actor could have been better at playing the part of the mysterious Great Gatsby besides Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor has proven on numerous occasions that he can perfectly adapt to a 1920s storyline pulling off an Oscar-winning interpretation. This time, he teams up with Carrey Mulligan, who plays the part of Daisy Buchanon and re-creates Fitzgerald’s novel using many contemporary elements.
The soundtrack contains a list of some of the most popular songs interpreted by the best contemporary artists, such as, Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine, OutKast’s Andre 3000 and Jack White. Beyoncé’s powerful voice could not be absent from the movie that is bound to be the most nominated in the future edition of the Academy Awards. You can actually hear her perform a cover after Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” single in the short trailer released by producers on Friday.
The atmosphere of the “Roaring Twenties” is recreated through the characters’ dresses and suits, through the interior decoration of Jay Gatsby’s house, as well as through the antique cars used during the making of the movie. The attention that was paid to all these details, together with the irreproachable interpretation of the two protagonists have determined critics to look forward with anticipation for the release of the film. Both movie goers and critics will have to wait a couple of months as the “Great Gatsby” will not hit theaters sooner than May 16.
