The vote for the gay marriage in New York allowed many same-sex people to be get married, including some NYC celebrities. Among them, there is actor Neil Patrick Harris, who is already hearing the wedding bells ring for him and his boyfriend, David Burtka.
The actor, who is now 38 years old, says he had already proposed to David, but that was even before the law being approved. “David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago.” Harris wrote on his Twitter page this this weekend. He also said that they were already prepared for tying the knot officially; they were just waiting for this moment. “We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date.”
The handsome actor whom you can see in the CBS series “How I Met Your Mother” was just one of the NY citizens celebrating the news in the aproval of the law in Friday. He then tweeted “It PASSED!” “Marriage equality in NY!!” he wrote. “Yes!! Progress!!”
The couple already has two babies via surrogate. They are the proud parents of twins. Their children are only 8 months old.
On Friday, New York became the sixth state in the United States of America in which same-sex marriages are legal. Republican Governor Andrew Cuomo believes this is one step towards progress and an example from the US to the world on equality among the human beings, no matter the race, gender and religion.
The law will be applied starting 30 days from Friday. Even though gay marriage has passed the legal obstacle, it will now have to surmont another one: the public opinion and the social acceptance. This translates to possible problems regarding the officiation of the wedding ceremony, as the law cannon compell religious institutions to officiate it. And from the clergy’s attitude so far, this will be a rough issue. The bishop of the New York’s Catholic Church says that he strongly believes marriage “is the joining of one man and one woman.”
