Celebrities make charity their business. Other than posing for paparazzi and making the headlines in gossip publications, charity is what celebrities do. However, despite their commitment to such events, some are more ‘good’ than others. According to DoSomething.org, most charitable celebs of this year are Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and George Clooney.
Lady Gaga is making a comeback this year and manages to top the DoSomething.org list of ‘Celebs Done Good Top 20’. She has put her name and status into backing anti-bullying legislation, starting the Born This Way Foundation and continued support of the MAC AIDS Fund.
Second place is taken by teenager idol Justin Bieber, who although new at this, he got off on the right foot. This year, Bieber managed to make it all the way from No. 10 to No. 2, thanks to his Believe Charity Drive campaign and his support to the school-building charity Pencils of Promise. The organization built 41 schools in Central America.
George Clooney, apart from being ridiculously handsome even at age 50, takes No. 3 in the ‘Celebs Done Good Top 20’, for his part in advocating for human right in Sudan. Kerry Kennedy, president of the Robert. F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, said: “Not only is George an important contributor to the Center, but he’s an inspiration to us all”.
Following these three frontrunners are celebrities such as Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith who support educational projects worldwide, Leonardo DiCaprio with his environmental and animal rights projects, Matt Damon for his water.org campaign as well as Ellen DeGeneres for her contribution in making people more aware of AIDS.
Maybe it’s a way to get rid of the guilt of making all that money and using it on luxurious holidays, ridiculous real estate, diamonds and branded clothes. Or perhaps, it’s really their way of giving back to the community that loves them and made them famous. In the end, it all boils down to this: getting involved in charity events is a great way to score some popularity points.
But, let’s not waste time on making comments why celebrities are so in to charity. All in all, it’s a good thing they are doing it.
