Mitt Romney Should Watch Out As Rick Santorum Surges In Polls

The current Republican presidential race has without a doubt been full of surprises and full in major changes at the top. Mitt Romney has become familiar with his frontrunner position, but as confident he’d be, he should watch out as Rick Santorum is surging in polls.

Recent national polls show that Rick Santorum is gaining support and becoming a real threat to Mitt Romney’s frontrunner position. In fact, these polls show that last week’s three winning strike Santorum had in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri is more than just let’s say luck.

A new national poll shows Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, gained 30 percent from Republicans. The Pew Research Center poll had Mitt Romney placed second with 28 percent support. Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich lost the frontrunner bid and ranks with 17 percent.

The Pew Research Center wrote on its website: “In the early GOP primaries, Romney has struggled at times in winning over the conservative elements of the Republican electorate – Tea Party supporters, conservatives and white evangelical Republicans”. In their opinion, “the new poll shows that nationally he trails Santorum among all three”.

Another poll, this time coming from CBS and New York Times shows Santorum at top, with 30 percent support, and Romney with 27 percent. However, a Gallup tracking poll has Mitt Romney still in lead with 32 percent. Rick Santorum carries 30 percent support in this poll.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney is preparing to launch an ad in metro Detroit, called “Growing Up”. The ad is meant to raise support for Romney ahead of the February 28 GOP primary and it features the former Massachusetts governor driving through what appears to be metro Detroit and recalling childhood memories. He talks about Michigan and its auto industry.

Romney says: “That was a big deal. How in the world did an industry and its leaders and its unions get in such a fix that they lost jobs, that they lost their future?”

From that point on, Mitt Romney slashes out at Barack Obama saying the president has done “all these things that liberals have wanted to do for years”. As a result he caused high unemployment, falling home values and distress for people in Detroit. He concludes saying he wants “to make Michigan stronger and better”.
