In the latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, actress Mika Kelly opens up about the relationship with her stripper mom and her famous Aerosmith guitarist dad. The “Charlie’s Angels” star confesses that at times, she had a pretty rough childhood.
Gorgeous actress Minka Kelley gave an interview to Cosmopolitan magazine about her life as a child and teenager. Her mother, Maureen Kelly, was a stripper and according to the star, she was “gorgeous”. “She was 5’11, legs up to her ears” Kelley recalls. She told the mag that some nights, when her mother came back from work, she would wake her up and took her shopping to the supermarket. Other times, she would make her skip school. In fact, it was Kelly that convinced her mother she needed to stay in school.
Now, that her mother is no longer with her (she passed away in 2008), the actress regrets not having had the wisdom of appreciating their relationship as it was. “I didn’t know how to appreciate what good friends we were, because I just wanted her to be my mom,” she admits. Three years ago, Maureen was discovered a tumor which was later diagnosed as colon cancer. Since the diagnosis was put, Minka and her mother became closer than they ever were and by the time of her death they were best friends. “I was with her until her last breath. We made it,” Kelly says.
Regarding the relationship with her father, Aerosmith guitar player Rick Dufay, she says that he wanted to marry her mother and be a family, but she “was too busy having fun”. She says that it was actually her mother that wasn’t interested in keeping the father-daughter relationship going. “It wasn’t like he didn’t want to be part of our lives”, Kelly concludes.
