Michael Jackson’s legacy cemented by children

The legacy of the late pop star, Michael Jackson was immortalized in cement during a special ceremony which was held on Thursday in the courtyard of Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The ceremony was assisted by the three children of the star who stamped the “Thriller” singer’s glove and shoe prints in concrete.

The event was accompanied by a special concert including a song and dance spectacle. The commemoration of the King of Pop brought together numerous fans, family members and celebrities like Justin Bieber and Chris Tucker.

One of the most important moments of the show was when the three children went on stage to speak about their father’s legacy. Prince Michael, 14, the eldest son of the King of Pop, declared that the Thursday spectacle was the lifetime achievement award that Michael Jackson always wanted to get. The “Black or White” singer won the Grammy Award which was handed to his children in 2010.

13-year-old Paris imprinted Jackson’s iconic silver sequined glove in the cement. She scrawled the artist’s name adding a heart between Michael and Jackson. Prince Michael and his brother Blanket, 9, placed the shoe of the King of Pop next to the glove. In the end, all the three children left their own handprints in the cement.

The concert included many other musical performances and tributes. At a certain point, Jackson’s brothers, Tito and Jackie, who were part of the Jackson 5, interpreted a song in honor of Michael. The singer’s mother, Katherine, was also present at the event. She described the concert as a “very very solemn occasion for my son”.

Tito Jackson told reporters that the entire family misses the late artist very much. He further added that he thinks of his brother every day and he knows his spirit was present with them at the ceremony.

Chris Tucker, Smokey Robinson and Quincy Jones shared their personal memories of Michael Jackson to the crowd. Although he may not have known the King of Pop very well, Justin Bieber invited people to remember Michael Jackson not for his dancing or for his singing, but for who he was as a person. Bieber confessed that he takes his inspiration from the works of the late pop star.
