Melissa River has finally decided to open op about the death of her mother, Joan Rivers. This is the first time when Melissa has spoken about the tragic events which led to the death of the famous comedian.
“For me the last three months and six days — not that I’m counting — have been different to say the least,” Melissa claimed during an appearance at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Breakfast in Los Angeles. Melissa admitted that she was overwhelmed, but the star decided to keep her sense of humor.
“Not just because it is the first time I’m speaking in tribute to my mother, but because every single person in this room could hire me, and a few have actually fired me. You know who you are but I don’t want you to feel bad … but technically I am now an orphan,” Melissa explained. When talking about her mom, she claimed that she was fearless.
Melissa explained that her mom was never afraid to do what her heart told her. “She was willing to say what others were thinking and too frightened to admit. She never apologized for a joke and no topic was taboo and she was fine with that,” the star explained. Melissa also shared with the audience some stories from when her mom was younger. She revealed that Joan Rivers has always followed her dreams and she has always been a great mom.
Melissa also said that maybe for others she was an artist and a legend, but for her Joan Rivers was just her mom and she has always been an amazing mom. “It’s hard for me to really think of her as any of those things because the bottom line is, she was just my mother,” Melissa confessed.
Melissa has always had an amazing relationship with her mom. Joan Rivers left her daughter in charge of her fortune and left money for numerous charities. Joan Rivers died on September 4, of brain damage caused by the lack of oxygen.
