Mel Gibson’s Divorce Leaves Him $425 Million Short
While for most people Christmas is a time of joy and cherished moments with loved ones, for Mel Gibson, Santa Claus had another thing coming. On Friday, Mel Gibson’s divorce has come to an end. But before being able to enjoy his comeback to bachelorship, his divorce will leave him $425 million short, as Gibson’s ex wife walks away with half of his money.
Although most of details regarding the breakup between Mel Gibson and Robyn Moore have been kept secret, one fact is sure: the famous actor will lose half of what he owns in favor of his ex wife. The reason? These two failed to sign a prenuptial agreement.
On Friday, a Los Angeles judge approved their divorce, which is set to take effect January 9. This divorce is set to break records as it is considered to have generated the biggest divorce payout in the Hollywoodian history.
According to the Los Angeles Business Journal, in 2006, Mel Gibson had an estimated fortune of $850 million. Gibson has estimated assets of more than $600 million brought in by ‘The Passion of Christ’, $75 million coming from different film and TV projects he produced, as well as $100 million in real estate investments across the world. Plus, as stated by People.com, on top of everything, Robyn Moore is entitled to half of every future check Gibson gets for the rest of his life.
This love story started in the late 1970s, when they were both leaving in Australia. They’ve been together for 31 years and together have seven children. Robyn Moore decided to end the marriage back in 2009, citing irreconcilable differences. The actor split with Robyn after his girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, got pregnant.
Oksana Grigorieva is one other bad love story for Gibson. When they first met, Gibson told Oksana he had left his wife because they had no spiritual common ground. But their love didn’t last long, as the Russian musician soon accused the actor of domestic violence. Oksana brought proof a series of recorded conversations during which Gibson lost his temper more than once.
Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva have finally reached a settlement this August, when he agreed to pay her $750,000 and give up custody of their toddler daughter in her favor. She also got to remain in their Sherman Oaks mansion.
