Matt Damon Denies Covering Up for Harvey Weinstein

Without a doubt, the subject of the moment when it comes to the world of celebrities involves Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment, abuse and even rape by a series of famous women. Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie or Rosanna Arquette have talked against the movie producer.

However, along with Weinstein, some other famous names were also dragged into the scandal. One of them is popular actor Matt Damon. Damon was accused of trying to cover up Weinstein’s mistakes, allegation which the actor denied. So, reporter Sharon Waxman accused Damon of trying to “kill” a story about Weinstein about 13 years ago.

The reporter said that she became aware of some rumors indicating that one of Weinstein’s employees in Italy was trying to procure women for him. However, she did not get to investigate too much, because she soon got a phone call from Damon and actor Russell Crowe, who wanted to vouch for the employee. Finally, the story was never published and the allegations were never made public. According to the reporter, Weinstein had actually asked Damon and Crowe to call her and make her take the story back.

“They were calling me to vouch for this executive. They were calling me to say that they knew the guy, they hung out with him in Italy, and he seemed like a good guy,” Waxman said. Well, Matt Damon denied conspiring with Weinstein or knowing about any allegations. He said he never tried to end the story. “I would never, ever, ever try to kill a story like that,” the Hollywood star said according to Deadline. “I just wouldn’t do that. It’s not something I would do, for anybody,” he went on to add.

The actor also said that Weinstein told him that the story was about the executive not having professional experience, and Weinstein asked Damon to “tell her that he was a professional and you had a good experience, and that was it”. “I was never conscripted to do anything. We vouch for each other, all the time,” he explained. “I’m sure I mentioned to her that I didn’t know anything about the rest of her piece, because I didn’t,” the actor concluded. Damon also said that he never knew about Weinstein’s behavior related to sexual abuse allegations.
