The Carey-Cannon couple, who has been blessed with a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, didn’t give any clues on what the babies names would be, until now. On Mariah’s official blog, she gave the names of both babies and explained why every name was chosen.
The little boy’s name is Moroccan Scott Canon. Moroccan may seem unusual, but the parents have great recollections of it. The top tier of Carey’s NYC apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of its Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also where Cannon, proposed to Carey, on May 1st 2008. The name Scott is Cannon’s middle name.
The little girl doesn’t have a middle name. She is simply Monroe Cannon. Monroe is inspired from the famous movie icon Marilyn Monroe, which was an inspiration to Mariah all her life. In fact, she purchased the Marilyn Monroe’s white piano from Christie’s auction house and it is in Mariah’s will that the piano will one day go to the Smithsonian.
Cindi Berger, Mariah’s representative tells CNN: “It has been a long, emotional journey for this family, and I couldn’t be happier for all of them.”
At the end of last week morning Mariah gave birth, through a cesarean section to twins – a baby boy and a baby girl. Both babies were born healthy. Monroe was born first, weighing 5 lbs. 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother, Moroccan Scott, was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches.
Berger described the day of the birth as very calm and happy for the couple:
““Nick was very nervous and Mariah was completely calm. Mariah thought it was another soft labor and Nick was driving her to the hospital and she was very calm and the music was blasting. When they walked into the hospital, Nick was going the wrong way and the nurse redirected them to go the maternity ward, and I said to her, ‘that’s right out of I Love Lucy,’ and she laughed.”
Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon have a ritual of renewing their wedding vows each year and this time, it happened in the hospital. Civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton conducted a brief ceremony at the hospital, only one day after the birth and gave his blessings to the babies.
