Only two months after becoming parents, pop diva Mariah Carey and TV show host Nick Cannon already split baby duties evenly.
Mariah and Nick’s two-month-old twins are already taking after the parents, Nick tells Us Weekly on Tuesday at the Mercedes-Benz Gala opening in New York City. He says that the babies are already borrowing preferential features from mom and dad. “My son is laid back like me” he says. With [him], you kind of feed him when you get around to it, and he’s okay with that.”
On the other hand, his daughter behaves more like the center of the Universe. “When my daughter wants something, she’ll let you know immediately”, Nick laughed. “My daughter’s a diva like her mom,” he added.
Singer Mariah Carey, 42, and “America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon, 30, have become parents of twins in late April. They have a baby girl, Monroe (named in honor of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe whom Mariah admires very much) and a baby boy, Moroccan (named after the Moroccan style room the Canon asked Mariah to marry him).
When talking about parenthood duties, Nick admits that although they are split as evenly as possible between them, he is not as talented as Mariah at changing diapers. “My diapers tend to leak,” he confesses. And when asked about how Mariah is doing and how she is adapting to her new mom role, Cannon says: “She’s amazing. She’s the best mother ever.”
Mariah and Nick wed on April 30, 2008, after only a month and a half of dating. The ceremony took place on Mariah’s private island in the Bahamas. Nick proposed to her “with real ring pops”. “I had a ring pop wrapper and opened it and was like, ‘Look, baby, our favorite candy!’ She had hers and she was like, ‘Mine is broken.’ She opened it up and it was her real engagement ring. So I’m a romantic guy,” Nick says. Since their wedding, the couple renews their vows every year. And this April, according to their tradition, they made vows to each other in the hospital, just one day after their newborns came into the world.
