Famous actress Kate Winslet also had a story to share about Harvey Weinstein. Luckily, in this case it did not talk about allegations of sexual harassment. In fact, Kate decided to reveal now the reason why she decided not to thank Weinstein when she won an Oscar in 2009.
Actually, when she held her winning speech at the Oscars back in 2009 many people wondered why Kate excluded Weinstein from the list of people she thanked. Some believed that she forgot, but that was not the case. During an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Kate said that she actually made the decision to not thank Harvey.
“I remember being told, ‘Make sure you thank Harvey if you win.’ And I remember turning around and saying, ‘No I won’t. No I won’t,'” the actress said. “And it was nothing to do with not being grateful. If people aren’t well-behaved, why would I thank him?” she went on to add. Kate and Weinstein collaborated back in 1994 when Kate actually made her debut. However, Kate revealed that it was not the best experience possible for her.
In fact, the star said that Weinstein always reminded her about the fact that he was the one who cast her in her first movie, Heavenly Creatures. “For my whole career, Harvey Weinstein, whenever I’ve bumped into him, he’d grab my arm and say, ‘Don’t forget who gave you your first movie.’ Like I owe him everything,” the actress said during her interview.
“But that’s how he operated. He was bullying and nasty. Going on a business level, he was always very, very hard to deal with — he was rude. He used to call my female agent a [vulgar name for a woman] every time he spoke to her on the telephone,” Kate also explained.
Kate previously praised all the women who decided to speak up about Weinstein’s misconduct. Kate also expressed her support for these women and said that Weinstein’s behavior was “disgraceful and appalling and very, very wrong.”
