Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, Kate Upton, has landed her first Vogue cover in Italy cementing her reputation as a bona fide member of the high fashion set. The November issue of the reputed fashion magazine proves that the ‘new girl’ has come a long way in the past year, Huffington Post reports.
After being rejected by Victoria’s Secret on grounds of being too obvious, Kate Upton reaches the pinnacle of high fashion with her first Vogue Italy cover. The 20-year-old model ditches the Sports Illustrated bikinis in favor of a 60s sensual look which was said to channel classic beauties, such as, Marlene Dietrich or Marilyn Monroe.
Upton wears a Fendi fur, a Patricia Field bustier and a diamond necklace for the November issue of Vogue. The voluptuous model, who dons glamorous locks, fiery red lips and major cleavage in the Italian fashion mag, was photographed by Steven Meisel. The image is accompanied by one simple, yet all-encompassing word: ‘SEDUCTIVE’.
The girl’s ability to be a stylish model was often subject to discussions ever since Victoria’s Secret reps claimed she has “the kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy”. By now, it has become clear to anyone that Kate is capable of pulling off sexy swimsuit photo sessions, as well as stylish pictorial for famous designers.
Carine Roitfeld also selected Kate to cover the first issue of CR Fashion Book because she wanted a model that looks totally different than today’s fashion standards. Unlike normal models, Kate has a “sensual body” without being controversial and this is, in Roitfeld’s opinion, the reason why many more fashion magazines could use her image on their covers.
The Florida-born star confessed she doesn’t want to embrace the super-skinny high fashion look because she thinks a healthy lifestyle is more important. She was glad the fashion industry accepted her point of view because she doesn’t want to starve herself like many other models.
