It goes without saying this year’s presidential campaign is filled with unexpected twists and endorsements. If Mitt Romney had Clint Eastwood empty seat speech go viral, Obama had Kal Penn make #SexyFace go viral at DNC.
It’s obvious politics has become more of a performance. An attempt to get voters’ attention anyway possible and if it’s entertainment that works best, entertainment is what they’re going to use. Celebrities are insanely influential with voters and both runners to the White House pulled out their best. To Mitt Romney’s weird Clint Eastwood speech, Obama had actor Kal Penn entertain voters with four letters and a Twitter hashtag.
This week it’s Obama’s turn to get celebrity endorsements and leave voters baffled and thrilled. Obama teamed up with actor Kal Penn and released a video that got #SexyFace viral. Obama calls the actor of “Harold and Kumar” to beg him to take his job seriously.
“Hey, this is Barack. Listen, I need to know if you’re on board. OK, good. Because I’m counting on you. Everybody is. We have to get this right” Obama warns Kal Penn in the video. “So there’s a lot at stake here. Just remember that I’m trusting you on this and I’ll see you then” adds Obama and then hangs up the phone.
It was just a teaser ahead of the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina where Kal Penn fired back at Mitt Romney and Clint Eastwood’s conversation to an empty chair. The actor’s speech was hot on issues that pertain commonly to younger voters.
“We can’t turn back now” said Kal Penn. “I ask all of you young people to join me. You don’t even have to put pants on. Go to commit.barackobama.com and register right there” actor Kal Penn told the audience.
Kal Penn was part of the Obama administration for a short time, while working as Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement. Penn told voters that while he has “worked on a lot of fun movies” it was his job at the White House that was his favorite. The actor said he worked for “a boss who gave the order to take out Bin Laden and how’s cool with all of us getting gay married”. Then, Kal Penn didn’t miss the opportunity to slam Clint Eastwood’s empty chair speech. “So thank you, invisible man in the chair, for that”.
So, what’s this all about the hashtag #sexyface going viral? Kal Penn asked voters to use #sexyface when referencing his speech on Twitter.
