John Travolta recovers pieces from his vintage Mercedes

John Travolta takes pride in his vintage cars, but unfortunately, so do car burglars. The “Pulp Fiction” star was visiting a Jaguar dealership in Santa Monica in September when his vehicle was stolen. Reuters relates that investigators managed to recover some pieces from the vintage Mercedes and arrest two men who were related to the theft.

Michael Green, 58, and D.L. Rayford, 52, are the main suspects that authorities hold responsible for John Travolta’s stolen car. The convertible 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280-SL was parked in the Los Angeles suburb while the owner was visiting a nearby shop. Upon Travolta’s return he noticed that the car was missing and notified the local police.

Santa Monica police Sergeant Richard Lewis told the press that the vehicle was traced back to a “chop shop” where various car pieces were found. Police officers were able to identify some dismembered parts from Travolta’s vintage Mercedes. Unfortunately, these were the only pieces that could be recovered so far and authorities don’t know whether they will be able to rebuild the entire car.

The arrests were not made public until now because the police did not want to compromise the larger investigation. The spokeswoman of the Los Angeles County District Attorney told the press that the thieves were charged with grand theft auto.

John Travolta has always been a car enthusiast, but he recently declared that his real passions remain planes. Since he was not able to purchase planes until now, the actor was forced to content himself with cars. In 1972, he bought his first car, a 1962 Oldsmobile that he acquired after a small TV contract to celebrate his career achievement.

Besides the stolen Mercedes, Travolta has many other vehicles in his garage. The most valuable ones are the Rolls-Royce, the Jaguar XJ6 and his beloved classic Thunderbirds. As a matter of fact, the actor confessed that he has three Thunderbirds, one from 1955, another from 1956 and the third one from 1957. He admires these models because they can achieve speed and distance even though they are very stylish.
