One of the actors featured in Game of Thrones has unfortunately passed away. JJ Murphy was 86 years old. The star actually died four days into filming. The Irish born actor died on Friday.
JJ Murphy was playing in Game of Thrones the role of Ser Denys Mallister, who was the oldest member of the Night’s Watch. Game of Thrones is one of the most successful HBO series at the moment. At the time of his death, JJ Murphy was working at the famous television series. The man has passed away only four days after starting filming for the fifth season of Game of Thrones.
Reports reveal that the star was cast to play Ser Denys Mallister. The talented actor collapsed and died on Friday, August 8, reports indicate. This happened after only a few scenes of the show have been filmed. It seems that this news is even more tragic, as reports indicate that Murphy was really anxious to star working at this film. Philip Young, his agent said that the star was “absolutely delighted”, to be cast “in one of the biggest productions in the world at this stage in his career.”
Unfortunately, JJ Murphy could not complete his role in this television series. The actor remains well known for his work at the Northern Irish theatre scene where he was first seen in the 1940s. The star is also known for working at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre. JJ Murphy enjoyed a long and beautiful career in acting and his last role, the one in Game of Thrones is without a doubt a great honor.
His part in this show is not the first time when JJ Murphy received a role in a book adaptation. This also happened with the film version of Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes book. It is yet to find out what the producers of Game of Thrones will decide linked to this part. So, they still have to confirm if they plan on rewriting the scenes that feature the famous star.
“We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended,” producers said in a statement.
The cause of death of JJ Murphy has not been revealed at this point.
