Jennifer Lopez’s reps announced that the singer will sue her former driver for $20 million after he tried to blackmail her by threatening to disclose private information. The driver, Hakob Manoukian, claims the Latin diva fired him without observing the provisions of his contract, Daily Mail reports.
The collaboration between Jennifer Lopez and her former driver didn’t end well. The singer announced that she will sue Hakob Manoukian because he did not observe the confidentiality agreement the two had and threatened to reveal personal information about the singer to the press.
The legal battle between the two started a long time ago when JLo fired Manoukian. According to the former driver’s declaration, he started working for Lopez and her then-husband, Marc Anthony in 2005. The couple liked him very much, so they asked him to close his business and start working for them, instead. Since they offered a considerable sum of money, $200,000, Hakob accepted the offer and things went well for a couple of years.
When the singer started filming “What To Expect When You’re Expecting”, Manoukian was forced to work for her manager, Benny Medina, as well. Unlike Lopez and Anthony, Medina bore a grudge against the driver since they first met. He constantly offended Manoukian telling him that he can’t drive, that he is not dressed properly and that he can’t speak English correctly. Shortly after, Jennifer Lopez fired the driver without providing him any explanation. As a result, Manoukian sued the singer for fraud, breach of contract and wrongful termination.
The former driver requested the 43-year-old interpreter to pay him $2.8 million compensation for damages. His lawyers, however, made the mistake of threatening to disclose private information about the personal life of the star and now Jennifer has sued her former driver for extortion. She demands Hakob to pay her $20 million for violating the confidentiality terms of their agreement.
