CNET News reports that Microsoft will use Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani in their upcoming Windows Phone 8 ads. The company relies on the two celebrities’ popularity to determine customers to try their new devices.
Microsoft’s new campaign aims at making Windows smartphones more attractive to younger segments of customers. The best way to do this, according to the software giant, is by employing two of the most famous interpreters, Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani. While Jay-Z managed to build a rap music empire, Gwen is world-famous for the fashion lines she has created. Thanks to them, Microsoft will be able to project a cool image on its new phones inviting iPhone users to give them a try.
This marketing campaign will soon be available in the United States, but similar efforts will be made in other European centers. Microsoft’s United Kingdom division has already selected two charming British celebrities in the attempt of triggering the same response from its customers. James Corden and Holly Willoughby, UK’s most loved show hosts at present, feature in two different Windows Phone 8 ads in which they try to convey the message that these devices were “Reinvented Around You”.
The company hasn’t revealed any details about the American ads featuring Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani, but they will presumably bear the same concept as Holly Willoughby’s commercial. The 31-year-old model and mother of two confesses that Windows Phone seems to have been created for her benefit. Holly’s favorite hobby is cooking, but she rarely gets to practice it when the kids are around. Luckily, the games included on the new Windows Phone keeps the children busy, while she “can play chef”.
Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani’s new Windows Phone 8 ad is a lot different than the one produced by Apple. The iPad maker hired John Malkovich and Martin Scorsese for their new campaign because they wanted to prove the world that Siri is a very intelligent assistant. Microsoft, on the other hand, is trying to make its new products hipper than the previous ones.
