E! News writes that ‘Fast & Furious 6’ has topped U.S. box office cashing in $122.2 million from tickets sold during the four-day Memorial weekend. The second most-awaited premiere of the week, the third instalment of ‘Hangover’, drew fewer film goers registering only $52 million in its first weekend.
Film goers seem to be just as interested in the sixth sequel of the ‘Fast & Furious’ blockbuster movie as they were during the debut of the first movie. The revenue that the instalment has cashed in during the four-day Memorial weekend has proven producers that their recipe is still working. Numerous ticket sales were sold at North American theaters and ‘Fast & Furious 6’ managed to top the weekend box office with $122.2 million.
The second debut of the weekend was Todd Phillips comedy, “Hangover III”. The sequel was not as successful as the car racing movie as it barely managed to gather $52 million this weekend. The producers and the stars of the third instalment of ‘Hangover’ have not made any comments yet as they believe figures would eventually turn in their favor in the following weekends. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the stars of the sixth ‘Fast & Furious’ were taken by surprise by the interest that viewers have shown towards their movie. Producers further revealed that the success of the film has determined them to create a seventh instalment which will arrive in cinemas in 2014.
JJ Abrams’ movie ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ landed on the third spot with a $48 million weekend revenue. ‘Epic’ is still one of the favorite movies of North American viewers considering that it has managed to gather $44 million this weekend. Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3’ rounded off the top 5 with $24.6 million, a smaller sum than producers initially expected.
