I used to wonder what would make Madonna’s fans turn against her, and I just got my answer. Fans booed Madonna in New Orleans for making an Obama endorsement during concert.
It’s not the first and obviously won’t be her last public endorsement of Barack Obama, but it was obviously a change of pace in Madonna’s MDNA tour. The crowd in New Orleans booed Madonna fiercely after her pledge to vote for Obama. When her fans didn’t take in the mass order, the artist re-adjusted her speech, pledging just for voting in general.
Madonna isn’t the first artist to dictate to her millions of fans to take action for a cause, or in this case, vote for a certain candidate to the presidential elections. It’s nice to see, however, that despite idolatry for insanely popular artists, people have a mind of their own, even if in New Orleans that most likely means favoring Mitt Romney.
“Who’s registered to vote?” asked Madonna her fans during the New Orleans concert this weekend. “I don’t care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama” she gushed, but didn’t expect the crowd to have something against that. And neither did I…Madonna is the most “liberal” pop artist with millions of fans, and I didn’t pan out Republicans to be her committed fans.
“Seriously, I don’t care who you vote for…” Madonna changed her speech after her fans booed her. “Do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote” the pop diva ended her pledge.
Since it isn’t Madonna’s first public endorsement of Barack Obama for President, New Orleans fans might have got the most decent speech. One month ago in Washington D.C., Madonna made another public endorsement but this time she went all in.
“It’s incredible to think that we have an African-American in the White House. Those fine human beings did not die for nothing!” Madonna said talking about the death of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr.. “So y’all better vote for f*cking Obama, okay? For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House, okay? Now that is some s***. That’s some amazing sh**” she added.
If Madonna’s fans in New Orleans booed her just for a plain vote Barack Obama for president, then I can only imagine what would have happened if she did a Washington D.C. speech.
