A second sex allegation was made against Elmo puppeteer, Kevin Clash forcing him to resign from “Sesame Street”. According to TMZ, Cecil Singleton claims the 52-year-old star forced him to have sex with him when he was only 15 years old.
The sex scandal surrounding “Sesame Street” star, Kevin Clash has become so powerful that the latter was forced to resign. Two weeks ago, a man named Stephen Sheldon filed a complaint against the Elmo puppeteer claiming that Clash engaged in a sexual relationship with him when he was underage. Clash responded that “it was a consensual relationship between two adults” and the charges were dropped a few days later. Sheldon recanted his initial statement telling reporters that Clash’s declaration was true.
A recent investigation performed by TMZ revealed the fact that Sheldon received $125,000 in order to drop the accusations and to agree with the former Elmo puppeteer’s declaration. This finding, coupled with Cecil Singleton’s sex accusations, has led to Kevin Clash’s resignation from the show.
Singleton filed a lawsuit against the 52-year-old “Sesame Street” puppeteer because the latter forced him to get involved in a relationship with him at 15 years old. While reports seem to conflict when it comes to determining how old Singleton was when he met Clash, they all agree on the manner in which the two ex-lovers met, namely, through a gay chat line. Given these circumstances, the victim is accusing Clash of “preying on teenage boys to satisfy his depraved sexual interests” and asking a $5 million compensation for all the caused damages.
Kevin Clash did not make any statements in relation to the recent sex allegations he is now facing. He, nevertheless, addressed his decision to leave “Sesame Street” claiming that his personal issues have diverted people’s attention from the show and he cannot allow this to happen. He further added that he has loved every single day of the 28 years he spent working for Sesame Workshop and, therefore, he is leaving with a heavy heart.
Sesame Street was equally saddened by Clash’s decision to leave, especially since he was on the show for such a long time. They, too, were forced to accept that “Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of [them] wants”.
