An important part of Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry collection will be auctioned this December in New York City and it is expected that they will be sold for about 30 million dollars. The jewels of the legendary actress went on display in Geneva on Friday.
A fine selection of jewelry belonging to late Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor is going to be auctioned this December in New York City. Among the pieces that are ready for generous bidders, there are bracelets, necklaces and tiaras given to her by her husbands and friends. One of the pieces set for the auction is a platinum bracelet with diamonds, which was a gift from Taylor’s dear friend, late pop icon Michael Jackson.
The center piece of the collection is a spectacular pearl necklace named “Peregrina”. Her husband, Richard Burton, whom she married twice, offered her the amazing piece of jewelry in 1969. Peregrina dates from the 16th century, and before becoming Taylor’s in 1969, it was worn by several Spanish and Austrian queens along the centuries. The original price that Burton bought it for was 37,000 dollars. At present, it is estimated to 2 to 3 million dollars.
The auction will be held by Christie’s and will also include a ruby and diamond ring, estimated at 1.5 million dollars, a huge 33.19-carat diamond ring, estimated at 3.5 million dollars and other highly expensive and one-of-a-king pieces. The following day, the auction continues with 269 items belonging to the star.
The auction was requested by Elizabeth Taylor’s family and a part of the money collected will go to charity, including the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.
