Comedy actor Eddie Murphy may be hosting the 84th edition of the Oscars, according to The Los Angeles Times. Along with Murphy, there is yet another comedian who is being considered for the position. Find out more by reading the article below.
On Tuesday, the Oscars producers, Brett Ratner and Don Mischer will have a meeting with the Academy’s president, Tom Sherak. There, they will debate on which celebrity will host this year’s Academy Awards edition. Deadline.com has talked to Ratner, whose mind is made up on choosing actor Eddie Murphy. The actor and the producer has started quite a friendship on the set of “Tower Heist”. Ratner was directing and Murphy acting in it. The movie, starring another great comedian, Ben Stiller, will premiere on November 4.
Deadline.com says that Eddie Muprhy’s agency, WME, believes that the event will be a boost for the actor’s “dormant” career. Taking into account that two of his movies will premiere before the Oscars, he will bring more publicity.
However, the “Daddy Day Care” star is not the only comedian interested in hosting the Awards ceremony. Billy Crystal, who has already gained the experience of hosting the Oscars before, is also interested in being the host of the 84th edition of the Academy Awards. And several sources confirm that he will be integrated somehow in the event.
Murphy is said to worship the Orcars. He was nominated in 2006 for Best Supporting Actor in Dreamgirls. But he does not have an Oscare statue just yet. “Nobody knows movies better or is a bigger cinephile than Eddie. Not even Quentin Tarantino. Eddie can quote scenes from every single movie word for word” an insider told Deadline. “He can bring all that experience to hosting.”
Even though it is not yet a done deal, the chances of seeing Eddie Murphy in the shoes of the Oscars host are very big.
