Dustin Diamond was sentenced to jail and it seems that the actor is ready to start his prison time. The star checked into a Wisconsin jail on Friday night, it has been reported. Diamond is set to complete a four months jail sentence for disorderly conduct.
Of course, the sentence is linked to the much famous accusations which have been brought to the star. Diamond was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, as well as with disorderly conduct after a barroom brawl. The actor stabbed another man in the altercation and later apologized for his behavior. He said that he was only trying to defend himself and his fiancée of that time, Amanda Schutz.
“I sincerely apologize to everyone involved,” the actor said after being sentenced to jail. He went on to add that the whole experience was actually terrifying for him. “That was the single most terrifying experience of my life,” he said.
“This is all I’ve been able to think about for the last six months.” Initially, the former Save by the Bell actor challenged the sentence and filed an appeal in the case against him. However, he later changed his mind and decided to start serving his sentence.
Luckily for Diamond, he received a rather light sentence, as he was not convicted on the most serious offences, which included a felony charge of recklessly endangering public safety. If he would have been found guilty on such serious accusations, Diamond would have received a bigger jail sentence. He was only convicted on two lesser misdemeanors.
The actor’s lawyer seemed to be happy with the outcomes and he actually previously stated that he was proud with the actor. “He gets it. I think he did the best that he could in the moment that he had to make the decision, but he certainly understands that you don’t want to send the message to society that it should be the Wild West in a bar scene,” Thomas Alberti previously said according to People magazine.
Dustin Diamond is best known for playing the role of Screech in television series Saved by the Bell, famous back in the 1990s.
