Star Wars fans weren’t all that thrilled to hear Disney bought LucasFilm. To make things worse, Disney says Star Wars 7 will be released in 2015. Suffice to say, Star Wars fans aren’t looking forward to Disney’s take on the story.
George Lucas sold the Force in a $4.05 billion deal. Now, Disney owns it, and from what fans are saying online, nobody is all that thrilled about the release of Star Wars 7 in 2015. And since George Lucas himself wanted nine Star Wars movies, there are at least two other movies in the series to be made.
“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers” said George Lucas as he introduced the deal with Disney. “I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime” he added.
Well, now Disney is taking over the Star Wars series and it has plans to make at least one new movie. George Lucas had another three movies to make but earlier this year he announced he will never make another Star Wars movie again. Apparently the filmmaker just couldn’t take the negative feedback about the more recent movies.
“On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie. I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it’”, George Lucas told The New York Times at that time.
Well, Mr. Lucas, your fans have a lot of commenting to do about you selling the force to Disney. And they have a lot more to say about Disney releasing a new Star Wars movie. Many believe Star Wars ended “perfectly” and it doesn’t need Disney to “ruin” it.
“I don’t want a new movie. Star Wars has had enough movies. And they can’t cast new people to be Han, Leia and Luke. The original cast members are too old for this stuff” writes one fan on courtneysmovieblog.
