Katie Couric revealed earlier this week Keith Urban is in negotiations to become the next “American Idol” judge. One day later, Keith Urban quits “The Voice” Australia. Did Keith Urban quit “The Voice” for “American Idol”?
There’s just no stopping the rumors around the next “American Idol” season judges. Katie Couric got a sort of confirmation from Jennifer Lopez that Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will join Mariah Carey on the “American Idol” judging panel. While Fox is still keeping this for itself, Keith Urban just announced he has to quit “The Voice” Australia for “other commitments”.
For the most part, everybody was seeing Keith Urban back as a coach on “The Voice” Australia. But the singer announced earlier this week that’s not going to happen. The singer claimed a busy schedule and “other commitments” would make it impossible for him to come back for another season.
Nine Network, local broadcaster for “The Voice” Australia, released Keith Urban’s resignation statement. “I’ve been so fortunate to have been a part of The Voice” reads Keith Urban’s press release. “And as much as I’d love to do it again, it’s clear that the recording and promoting of a new album, a tour and other commitments will keep me from being a part of the second season” he adds.
“To everyone who sang on the show, I thank you; you’ve inspired not just me, but countless others. To everyone behind the scenes and to my on-camera family…thank you for making it so much fun” Keith Urban said.
Meanwhile, just one day before Keith Urban’s decision to leave “The Voice” Australia, Katie Couric was having an interview with former “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez. The show’s host asked Jennifer Lopez what she thinks “about the new group of judges”. The actress-singer seemed surprised that Fox already announced the new names and asked who they were.
Katie Couric said it was Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson. “That’s an eclectic group” said Jennifer Lopez to which Katie replied “I’m glad. I think it will be fun to have Keith Urban there”. “I think they all have something really different to offer so it should be interesting” Jennifer Lopez concluded.
Meanwhile, Fox told ABCNews.com that the “only confirmed judge for ‘American Idol’ is Mariah Carey. No other judges have been announced at this time”.
