Oscar winning actor, Denzel Washington opened up about his relationship with late singer Whitney Houston in a recent interview for the CQ magazine. The actor met Whitney on the set of “The Preacher’s Wife” and they became close friends ever since.
Mysterious Denzel Washington has finally agreed to disclose some private details of his life for the upcoming issue of the CQ magazine. The actor spoke about his friendship with the late singer Whitney Houston who was found dead in her hotel room on February 12, 2012.
As costars in “The Preacher’s Wife”, Denzel and Whitney became very close friends, which is why the actor was deeply saddened by her demise. He told reporters that Whitney was destroyed by the drugs she was consuming and that it became very difficult for people who knew her to witness the struggles she was going through. Unlike other former addicts, Whitney didn’t have the necessary strength to stay away from drugs, even though she had a very good evolution in recovery.
Washington made reference to Sam Jackson as an example of people who manage to stay clean no matter how strong their past addiction might be. He stated that he knew Jackson for almost 30 years, so he had the chance to see him both in his good and his bad times. Sam used to be at the bottom, but once he cleaned up in rehab, he never looked back again, the actor added.
The 57-year-old actor is dealing with different types of problems, too. He revealed for the first time that he finds it hard to deal with his fame. He tries as much as possible to keep a low profile because he knows that mystery plays a big part in actors’ career. “’If they see you for free all week, they won’t pay to see you on the weekend,” is the piece of advice that Washington received from Sidney Poitier and which serves as his motto. Denzel concluded by saying that his profession is to become a better actor; therefore, he cannot behave like a Hollywood celebrity.
