Demi Lovato is a single woman now. The star has been separated from her long-time boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama for several weeks. Now, Demi decided to open up about her addictions and claimed that she believed that she was going to “die young.”
Demi decided to open up during an interview with American Way magazine. The star talked about her struggle with drugs, but also about her bipolar disease. Demi claimed that because of her addictions and her struggles with diseases, she thought that she was not going to make it until her 21st birthday.
“I lived fast and I was going to die young,” the beautiful singer said. “I didn’t think I would make it to 21.” The fact that Demi underwent rehab treatment is not something new. It actually is widely known that Demi checked into rehab for three months, back in 2011. At that time she was diagnosed with bipolar disease and received treatment for this condition.
“So now I’m in rehab,” Demi confessed during her interview. And I thought, “‘Oh great, now the world thinks I’m just another stereotype.’ I thought, ‘I’m not in treatment for a drug and alcohol problem. But once I started eating again, the other issues got worse. It was like whack-a-mole.’ ”
Of course, a lot of time has passed since then and Demi is doing perfectly well now. However, this does not mean that she forgot all about her treatment. In fact, the star said that she keeps on attending AA meetings with the purpose to stay on track.
The singer also opened up about her childhood and claimed that she had to deal with numerous insecurities as a child, when she attended beauty pageants. She started to attend beauty pageants at the age of only seven and continued to do so for no less than five years, until she turned 12. During this time, the star was criticized for her weight and looks.
“When I was gaining weight because I was becoming a woman, I would look at those images [on her bedroom wall] and say to myself, ‘Wait, this is not what I look like. I’m getting fat on the hips and on my butt,'” Demi revealed.
