Following the legalization of same-sex marriages in England, David Furnish and Elton John plan on getting married. Most likely, the wedding will take place in May.
Elton John and David Furnish have been a couple for no less than 20 years now. Without a doubt, the two are meant for each other, having a happy relationship. They have two children and are as happy as possible. The couple entered into a civil partnership back in 2005 and they will now be able to legally wed in their own country.
David Furnish confirmed the fact that he and his partner will wed in an interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal. The star said that they will opt for a simple and romantic ceremony, at which their two children will have an important role. David and John are parents to three year old Zachary and 16 months old Elijah.
“We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example,” David Furnish said during the interview. He also added that only a few friends will attend the ceremony, which will be very intimate. This is a different approach from the one the couple chose at their civil union, when they held a $2 million reception.
David also explained that they love big parties, but the wedding is something different. “I think what we’ll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses,” he said. Furnish claimed that this step is important since the two are “committed for life”.
Same-sex marriages were recently legalized in England. David Furnish said that this is a great thing for many couples and something that he never thought it will become possible. The star explained that 20 years ago he surely did not imagine that he and his life partner will be able to wed or have children. The wedding news was revealed by Furnish as his life partner is celebrating his 67th birthday.
