The 18th Global Mobile Awards was held during this year’s edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Numerous smartphone manufacturers have received prizes for various categories, Apple being beaten by Samsung during a series of categories.
After the Oscar ceremony, it was time for IT companies to get acknowledged for their contribution in the industry. Various honors were thus handed during the 18th edition of the Global Mobile Awards. The event ended with a presentation provided by David Walliams, who is a reputed actor, writer and comedian. In addition to the Global Mobile Awards, the GSMA’s CEO announced the Government Leadership Awards for companies which deserve recognition for the innovations they have made in their field.
There was a long list of awards presented during the Global Mobile Awards, so we will present only the categories that are the most important. Samsung won the “Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronics Device” for its Galaxy Camera, as well as the category of “Best Smartphone” for their Galaxy S3 model. Facebook received an honor because they created the “Best Mobile App for Consumers”. Google/Asus were the winners of the “Best Mobile Tablet” due to their Nexus 7 model, but the most important award for the “Device Manufacturer of the Year” was offered to Samsung for the activity they have registered during the last year.
Despite the strong competition that takes place between the two companies in real life, Apple didn’t manage to equal the number of trophies that Samsung took home at last night’s ceremony. The Cupertino company received an honor for their iPad 2 tablet as the jury considered it to be the best device in this category.
Nokia continues to be among the top three most awarded companies in the world as the Finnish mobile manufacturer won the award for the category of “Best Entry Phone”. The honor was given for their C3 model, but the other two products competing for this category were Nokia’s C-01 and Nokia’s C2-03.
