After making a successful appearance in the first “American Pie” movie, Chris Klein had to withdraw from the business to fight his alcohol problems. The actor confesses during an interview with People magazine that alcohol almost killed him.
Very few people would have guessed that Chris Klein was on the verge of developing drinking problems when they first saw him acting in the 1999 “American Pie”. However, the 33-year-old actor admits that he had to check into rehab or he would have risked losing his life. This explains why the actor was absent from the big screen in the past ten years.
Klein got into various problems as a result of his alcohol addiction. He was arrested two times for driving under the influence and sentenced to prison for 96 hours. Eventually, the Nebraska-reared actor realized that he had to check into a rehab facility in 2010. Thanks to the programme he followed there, Klein has been able to stay sober for 19 months. He told reporters at People magazine that he understands that he would have been dead if he didn’t put an end to his destructive habits.
The actor described himself as a “fragile shadow” of the man he used to be when he first entered the business. Luckily, he made the right choice and now he is alive.
The “American Reunion” represents a new beginning for Klein, but also for many of his colleagues on the set of the movie. As a matter of fact, he was not the only actor in the movie who checked into rehab. His friends, Seann William Scott and Tara Reid also paid frequent visits to these facilities in the past decade. Judging by their latest appearances, it looks like the three actors have managed to overcome their problems.
During the interview with the People Magazine, Chris Klein confessed that he was very excited about the “American Reunion” project and he couldn’t wait to get back on the set with his friends. The movie is due to premiere this year, on April 6.
