Black Friday 2012 is just around the corner. It’s time to start looking for the best deals!
Some people will wait all year for the amazing Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. For some, the discounts on November 23rd are the only way they can afford a new TV or a new laptop. However, even Black Friday discounts might not be just as great as you’d think. Discounts, on sale and special offer are always the kind of factors that make people rush into buying stuff they don’t need or for a price tag that isn’t that great compared to other season sales.
Giving into the great Black Friday deals is something Dealnews.com warns about. Earlier this week, the website published a list of what not to buy on Black Friday thinking that’s the lowest price you could get. At the top of the list, Dealnews.com puts toys. Don’t buy it on Black Friday mesmerized by red discount signs, just wait for the much more profitable Christmas deals.
For Black Friday, stores will be full of discounts on all kinds of Christmas decorations. Don’t give into temptation. The Christmas discounts on decorations are even better. Or, if you’re looking for the best price on Christmas decorations, just wait until the end of the holiday. Retailers want to get rid of the stock, so you’ll be able to buy decorations for your next two Christmas trees without exactly breaking a leg and arm.
The list also features brand name HDTVs, for which Black Friday isn’t exactly the lowest price time. The advice from Dealnews.com is to wait until January and February when “manufacturers look to clear stock in preparation for new models in the spring”. Same goes for the last generation digital cameras. In only a few months the latest WOWW in digital cameras will turn into the “old model” and the prices will drop.
Dealnews.com also advises against buying Apple iPad mini or Microsoft Surface RT tablets on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Instead of buying the iPad mini just wait for the iPad 2 Black Friday discounts, which the website predicts it “will fall to $299 this Black Friday”.
Black Friday is on its way and for some it’s a time of more excitement than the actual Thanksgiving Day celebration. Since retailers are starting earlier this year, be ready to make the best shopping choices, since offers are going to vary from the pre-Black Friday discounts to Cyber Monday deals.
For some time now the Thanksgiving Day weekend shifted focus from food, family and football to shopping. Black Friday is the opening discount event for the holiday season and all retailers are pushing to start it with huge revenues. And since past years have brought Americans to the edge, buying products on sale is oftentimes the only way they actually have the money for.
Since Black Friday has turned into such a big deal that this year it starts as early as 8 p.m., knowing where the best deals are has never been more important. And it’s not just that Walmart, Toys R Us and Target opening their doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Retailers have also prepared pre-black Friday and pre-cyber Monday deals ahead of time.
“I think we’ll start to see some pre-black Friday pre-cyber Monday deals start to take place this week and next week” said James Brown with PriceGabber.com. “Everybody is racing to get to the consumer dollars as fast as possible” the Price Grabber.com senior director of Merchant Services told ABC News.
So what should you be on the lookout for this Black Friday? Well, according to field experts tablets will be the hottest holiday purchase in 2012. “They look to be the must-have product this holiday season” and since “pricing is more competitive” people are going to buy it more and more.
However, it’s likely you’re not going to find much of a discount on iPad mini for Black Friday. It’s a lot more likely you’re going to get Amazon Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 at a price tag even lower than the $199. That’s already more than one hundred dollars less than what Apple is charging for a 16GB iPad mini.
Based on Dealnews and Kiplinger’s list on what not to buy on Black Friday, you should also be wary of buying bicycles and cars for instance, since the cold season isn’t exactly the time you commonly find the best deals. Same goes for cameras. Experts say you should wait until February when the today’s innovative generations becomes previous generation and retailers cut the prices.
FBI announced that they will be preparing a timeline for Petraeus’ probe in order to explain why they waited for so long before notifying the White House of their discovery. The criminal investigation has helped officials discover the CIA Director David Petraeus’ extramarital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell.
The extramarital relationship between the ex-CIA director David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell continues to make headlines. FBI announced on early Tuesday that they are now preparing a timeline of Petraeus’ investigation to prove that they were in no position to notify the White House when the affair was first discovered.
Paula Broadwell’s house was also searched on Monday as investigators were trying to determine whether the woman was aware of national security matters or not. The Pentagon is paying close attention to the case, as well; they announced that they will analyze communications between the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan and the second woman involved in the case to determine whether they contained any secret messages.
The two lovers recurred to a secret method used only by terrorists and agents to hide their email traffic. They would write the messages, but instead of transmitting them to the other interlocutor’s inbox, they would save them in the draft folder or in an electronic “dropbox”. The other person would later on, log into the account and read the message without creating email trails that could be intercepted.
Although FBI found out about Petraeus’ relationships months ago, the White House was only informed on November 6th, during Elections Day. The former CIA director acknowledged his mistake and filed his resignation papers on the same day the news was made public. A senior federal law enforcement official tried to blame the notification timing on longstanding policies and practices. He stated that FBI cannot disclose information about their criminal investigations because they observe a federal law that was adopted during Nixon’s administration.
AFP reports that a man from New Zealand was arrested after authorities discovered that he was planning a manure assault on Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla. Sam Bracanov, 74, is a famous anti-royalist who organized similar protests in the past.
Sam Bracanov has never had the royalty at heart. While the entire city of Auckland was getting ready to welcome Prince Charles and his wife Camilla on Monday, the 74-year-old anti-royalist was planning a one of a kind attack on the royal family. The man confessed on Tuesday that he had intended to hurl manure at the couple upon their arrival in the city.
Police officers in Auckland got a hold of Sam before he managed to enact his devilish plan. During the first court appearance that was held on Tuesday, the man pleaded not guilty to the charges that were brought against him. He was, nevertheless, much more sincere with the press telling reporters that he had purchased the manure in order to give Prince Charles a ‘warmheartedly welcome’.
According to Bracanov’s declarations, the horse manure had been purchased a long time before the royalty’s visit. He has, thus, managed to mix it with water and create a sort of “porridge” that was supposed to be thrown against the British heir to the throne. “I would have done it,” the elderly man insisted.
The motive behind his assault: he wanted to protest against Prince Charles’ privileged position. In his opinion, the British royal did not qualify for his position with the brain, but with the body and “what (the) body produce(s) goes to toilet”. As a result, throwing manure at Prince Charles and Camilla was the most appropriate way to return them the favour.
Sam Bracanov orchestrated a similar protest during the Prince’s visit to Auckland in 1994. Back then, the anti-royalist attempted to spray air freshener at Charles to help him get rid of the “stink of royalty”. In 1988, he hurled a bucket of horse manure at the car that was carrying King Juan Carlos of Spain on a visit to New Zealand. For the current assault, the Auckland District Court prohibited Sam to get closer than 500 metres (yards) to the royals during their visit on the former colony.
In a country where exotic flavors soft drinks are common day business, the Pepsi brand needs something special to keep competition away. In Japan, the Pepsi distributor has released a special fat-blocking Cola.
The healthy product market has bloomed in the past years, convincing more and more soft drink and fast food companies to rethink their market approach. Many have introduces healthy products in the menus or have bought smaller companies to get in the market. In the soft drink market, the likes of Pepsi and Cola are highly scrutinized for the high level of sugar in their recipes.
In Japan, the Pepsi distributor is trying to keep current in a soft-drink market that makes $48 billion a year. Pepsi has released several odd flavored drinks before to address its customers in the Japanese market. Salty watermelon and yogurt are not your common choice for a Pepsi in the U.S., but they were just a few of the flavors Pepsi tried in Japan.
Now the company is taking an aim at the healthy cola market, where its competitor, Kirin, has entered a few months ago. Kirin released in April a beer containing the same fat-blocking fiber as Pepsi’s Special cola. The fiber is called dextrin and is, according to distributor Suntory, great at actually reducing the fat levels in your body. In other words, Pepsi can be healthy?
Based on Japanese guidelines for the healthy cola market, the dextrin based drinks are in fact “food for specific health use”. Dextrin’s fat-blocking properties were researched in 2006 in a study by two experts with the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Japan. Researchers observed that the rats that were fed dextrin and fat at the same time were not as fat as those who didn’t eat the fiber.
The new Pepsi Special by Japanese Pepsi distributor Suntory will be released this Tuesday. Next month, December 11, Suntory will also release Pepsi White, a cola with a tangerine flavor. Pepsi White has been promoted as a celebration of “the joy of winter” in Japan, where the mandarin oranges are traditional for the New Year festivities.
Republicans really thought they’d win the election with Mitt Romney. Former House Speaker and Republican candidate New Gingrich said Obama’s win of the re-election has “dumfounded” him.
The Mitt Romney campaign ruined its chances to win the presidential election so many times in only a few months that it was logically impossible to actually win against Obama. The 47 percent video of Mitt Romney was enough to begin with, not to mention all the rape comments. But losing now has Republicans shaken to a new reality: Obama’s win has “dumfounded” them.
For the past few months, Republicans have done their best to putt Obama under scrutiny. It didn’t work as they imagined, since it had backfired on several occasions. As they put their resources into controversial claims, they didn’t take the time to actually explain the math of their platform. Losing was a wakeup call that had Newt Gingrich find respect for the Obama campaign.
“The president won an extraordinary victory, and the fact is we owe him the respect of trying to understand what they did and how they did it” Newt Gingrich said this Monday on “Today”. “But if you said to me three weeks ago that Mitt Romney would get fewer votes than John McCain – and it looks like he will be 2 million fewer – I would have been dumfounded”.
Newt Gingrich confessed he “was wrong last week, as was virtually every major Republican analyst”. The aim is to stop and find out why Republicans lost the election “that far off”. And it wasn’t just the presidential bid, but also Senate seats in North Dakota, Montana, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Virginia, New Mexico and Massachusetts.
The former candidate in the GOP presidential nomination talked about Obama’s re-election in an article published Monday on the Politico website. “An intellectually honest and courageous Republican Party has nothing to fear from the current situation” Newt Gingrich added about the party and conservative movement’s need “to learn the lessons of 2012”.
“This was a party-wide defeat and should be thought of as a profound wake up call” Newt Gingrich writes and notes that the voting population, the turnout mechanism and the communications systems “are different that Republican models”.
The Associated Press reports that CIA and FBI officials are worried that Petraeus’ extramarital affair might have compromised national security. Their concerns increased after a recent investigation revealed that Petraeus’ paramour, Paula Broadwell, sent threatening emails to another woman in Florida.
David Petraeus’ relationship with his biographer Paula Broadwell has been recently disclosed causing the former to resign from his position of director of CIA. The members of the Congress will continue to investigate the extramarital affair because they fear Broadwell could possess information related to national security.
According to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, Paula sent various threatening emails to a woman named Jill Kelley, who lived in Tampa, Florida. The latter serves as the State Department’s liaison to the military’s Joint Special Operations Command, which is why the emails prompted U.S. military officials to start an investigation about Paula. They have, thus, discovered that the author was involved in an extramarital relationship with the ex-CIA director, Petraeus and decided to confront them both.
An anonymous friend of Kelley and Petraeus declared that the two were close friends and they used to see each other on a regular basis. The source did not provide any other details in relation to the nature of their friendship. However, Petraeus will remain in the Congress’ attention for a long period of time because the members want to know the exact moment when the retired general became a subject of FBI’s inquiry. In addition, they want to make sure that the affair between him and Paula Broadwell did not jeopardize their missions.
Rep. Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is more upset because the FBI did not reveal their discoveries earlier. In his opinion, the discrepancy between the date of investigation and the date of FBI’s official statement is too big. “It seems this (the investigation) has been going on for several months and, yet, now […] they’re saying that the FBI didn’t realize until Election Day that General Petraeus was involved,” King added.
Petraeus resigned during the investigation following the September 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate and CIA base in Benghazi, Libya. In spite of his recent problems, he could still be invited on Capitol Hill to testify about the U.S. response in relation to the attack.
Everyone in the press was expecting Donald Trump to apologize for his recent behavior and political comments, but the real estate mogul claims he doesn’t regret his Twitter meltdown. As a matter of fact, the American business magnate is convinced his popularity will increase as a result of his online rant, the Inquisitr reports.
Unlike Denise Helms, the woman who was investigated after an uninspired Facebook post, Donald Trump is making unabashed declarations a week after his Twitter meltdown. The famous business man told reporters at the Inquisitr that he is not the least ashamed of the statements he has made on the social network. On the contrary, he is glad to see that many people in America share his points of view.
As soon as he found out that Obama was re-elected the President of the United States, Trump took to Twitter to set his frustrations free. He described Obama’s victory as a “total sham” and as a “disgusting injustice”. Moreover, he invited people to start a revolution in Washington so they could get rid of Barack. There have been other controversial comments, as well, but the real estate mogul realized it was safer to delete them.
This doesn’t mean, however, that Trump is having second thoughts about his Twitter meltdown. He relies on his followers and is convinced that fans will continue to support him irrespective of what he says or does. “I have no regrets. I’ve been well-received … I will have way over 2 million Twitter followers shortly,” the mogul concluded.
Despite this, a petition against Donald Trump was started a few hours after Trump’s rant. Those who have signed the petition request Macy’s to stop commercializing Donald’s merchandize. The document, however, could not intimidate Donald. He responded by letting his rivals know that he has many connections within Macy’s; therefore, it will be long until the store stops selling its products.
The Inquisitr reports that a 22-year-old woman from California was arrested after posting a racial slur against President Obama on her Facebook account. Denise Helms, who is clearly not a supporter of the African American President, told her friends that maybe “he will get assassinated” prompting authorities to investigate her.
Denise Helms never expected her joke about Barack Obama to cause such a tantrum on behalf of the Secret Service. The 22-year-old woman made a racial comment about the newly re-elected President and hoped that maybe he “gets assassinated this term”. The post went viral within a few hours as it was shared by other Facebook users.
Helms released an interview telling reporters that she never expected to get so much attention over a comment. She later on tried to set things straight by admitting that the part related to the president’s assassination was a little bit far-fetched. The mere fact of speaking about someone’s assassination doesn’t necessarily mean you would do it, Denise explained. However, she wouldn’t be the least affected if Obama was murdered.
Denise’s employers at Cold Stone Creamery were outraged by the woman’s comment, as well. They decided to fire her and posted an official statement on their Twitter account, on Thursday, notifying the press that Helms is no longer working with them. Following an avalanche of angry messages, Cold Stone Creamery’s spokesperson declared that the company does not share the employee’s view on Barack Obama.
Denise Helms’ problems could get a lot worse in the future. According to the Associated Press, the woman is currently being investigated by the Secret Service because threatening the president is a felony. If she is found guilty she could be sent to jail.
Helms is not the only person who posted offensive messages against the United States President after the results of the election were communicated on Tuesday evening. Real estate mogul Donald Trump took to the Twitterverse to express his anger over Obama’s re-election and to invite people to make a revolution. He later on deleted his radical posts.
New York City’s Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has released a statement announcing that a gasoline rationing plan will be enacted in the city to help residents cope with Sandy’s repercussions. The plan presupposes that motorists will fill their tanks up every other day, the Associated Press reports.
Gas stations were crammed with drivers on Thursday night as soon as the Mayor communicated that a gasoline rationing plan will be enacted starting on Friday. Police officers are now supervising the activity of gas stations to make sure the plan is observed by all drivers in New York and Long Island.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg reassured everyone that the plan was elaborated to ensure a fair chance for everyone. He further stated that the measures that were adopted are the least oppressive because the City Hall wants to make things easier for everyone.
The adoption of the plan was all the more necessary considering that the weather conditions grew worse in New York City since Wednesday evening. The relief efforts that authorities have made in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy were stymied by the dense snow and heavy winds that covered the states between New York and New England. Given these circumstances, the power outage is expected to continue in the following period.
While Bloomberg is assuring residents that constant efforts are being made to restore the city to its pre-Sandy condition, residents in New York and New Jersey have begun to lose their temper. They claim they have waited too long for the electricity to come back and they request an investigation because they think facilities are working too slowly. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is backing them up; he, too, thinks the facilities are unprepared and badly managed. “It’s unacceptable the longer it goes on because the longer it goes on, people’s suffering is worse,” Cuomo added.
The gasoline rationing plan was adopted at 5 a.m. on Friday on Long Island and at 6 a.m. in New York City. Drivers with license-plate numbers ending in an odd number or a letter will be able to fill up on Friday, whereas drivers with license plates that end in even numbers or zero can fuel up on Saturday. The plan, which will last for a couple of weeks, does not apply to buses, taxes and limousines, commercial vehicles and emergency vehicles.
