When Versace meets H&M

You have probably seen the Versace H&M collection in stores by now and you have already noticed the color explosion, the sophisticated look and the affordable prices. This fall, Versace meets H&M to bring you a new refreshing style you are going to love and embrace within seconds.

The Versace H&M collection was launched in New York on November 9. The event was of large proportions, including – as expected – the presence of numerous celebrities. Among them, there was Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, Nicki Minaj, Sofia Coppola and Uma Thurman. The fashion presentation was done in very high class manner, making the guests feel like they were royalty.
When it comes to the clothes, they were received very well. “Versace is iconic. People are going to eat it up”, said Lazaro Hernandez, who praised the idea of collaboration between the two fashion names, that until now, did not seem to have something in common. One thing that strikes, at a first look, is the colors. Very vibrant and very exotic, they remind us of summer of the beach and of vacation and relaxation, in general.  The wavy dresses, the short skirts, the intriguingly patterned tights are combined with neutral elements that enhance the colors and the life in the fabric.

If you are interested in the collection, you can learn about it on the official website of H&M. A leather jacket with quilted details on yoke and sleeves is 299 dollars. A long-sleeved knee-length dress in patterned silk is priced at 149 dollars.

The clothing collection also features a shoe collection. A pair of black suede boots with front laces and a one-of-a-kind overall look is 150 dollars.  The collection also includes belts, purses , bracelets, rings, earrings and scarves.

Model Maggie Rizer gives birth to baby boy

On Wednesday, model and actress Maggie Rizer gave birth to a baby boy named Alexander Rafahi Mehran III, Us Weekly reports. The baby was born at 5:30 p.m. in northern California, near San Francisco.

33-year-old blonde model Maggie Rizer is a mom. On Wednesday afternoon, she and her husband, businessman Alex Mehran have become parents for the first time. Little Alexander Rafahi Mehran III weighed in at 7 lbs., 13 oz and, according to her mother, he is a perfectly healthy and happy baby boy.

“He has 10 fingers, 10 toes, sandy hair, deep blue eyes and is practically perfect, in every possible way!” Rizer wrote on her blog. Zander, as she called him, already has a photo of him going around, as you can see. It is the photo that his mother posted on her blog, when announcing the birth.
“Alex and I are very proud parents and incredibly excited to get to know our new little lad”, she wrote. “We feel tremendously blessed this Thanksgiving!”

Rizer and Mehran got married over a year ago, on September 18, 2010, in Lake Placid, New York.

Maggie Rizer has modeled for some of the most famous names in fashion: Versace, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Gap, Clinique, Tommy Hilfiger, Celine, Viktor & Rolf, Romeo Gigli, and Max Mara. She was a very popular model in the late 90s and early 2000s and as her agent at the time, Neal Hamil said that “she was a canvas you could manipulate and mold into whatever mood or look you were doing, which made her, obviously, a very popular model”.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner host Hello Kitty Collection launch

Kendall and Kylie Jenner, the little sisters of Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, hosted the launching of the New Hello Kitty Collection. The event took place on Thursday at Forever 21. The two teenagers loved to dress-up for the camera and presented thei girls their age with cute and fancy options for their winter wardrobe.

Forever 21’s Hello Kitty collection comes in classy colors: black and white, pale ballerina pink, cream and beige. You can spot some red and some grey, some animal print, but all in all, Hello Kitty has ditched the cheap neon colors we originally got used to. After seeing the photos of Kendall and Kylie Jenner posing for the camera dressed in the new collection items, blowing kisses from under the dramatic bangs, some may think that the outfits are too much or too little. From see-through tops, to leather pants and skirts, to blouses a la Audrey Hepburn, the teenage girls, have the liberty of mixing everything. And, as we got used to, the prices are low enough to replace the old wardrobe from scratch.

For Kendall and Kylie Jenner, this was not their first fashion appearance. They both have modeling experience. Kendall, who is 16, has modeled for Forever 21 in 2010. Kylie, who is 14, has modeled Avril Lavigne’s Abbey Dawn line during the New York Fashion Week. “Coming home from hosting the Hello Kitty forever 21 launch! I love it!,” Kylie tweeted about the experience.

Victoria’s Secret T-shirts become collectible after design mistake

A Victoria’s Secret college T-shirt model has become collectible after the fashion company has removed them from sale, due to a design mistake that could not have been ignored. The “SPARTANS hail to the VICTORS” dark green T-shirts from the PINK collection are now in the possession of only the people who have ordered them online before the removal from the website.

College T-shirts are sexy, no matter the color or the texts they have printed on them. This, if the text is correctly spelled and has no meaning mistakes. Like reading first “SPARTANS” and then having “hail to the VICTORS” printed on them. Victoria’s Secret has failed to make a proper documentation before getting a whole T-shirt collection out, making the above mentioned mistake. For those of you who are not familiar with sports teams, the Spartans are Michigan State University’s team and the Victors is the fight song of the Michigan’s Wolverine’s team.

The first to notice the design mistake was CNBC sports business reporter Darren Rovell. “The folks @VictoriasSecret have made a horrible Michigan error.” After he pointed out the mistake to the fashion company, the photos of the dark green incredibly cute T-shirts have removed from the website, thus preventing any more sales. For those with a sense of humor, the mistake was not so “horrible” as Rovell described it. After all, what is so wrong about wearing a team’s name on your boobs and the name of their rivals on your belly button? And if you think that there aren’t many going around…

New Benetton ad shows political leaders kissing

For its new campaign, called “Unhate”, the Italian fashion company United Colors of Benetton has come up with the idea of photos of political leaders kissing. The Photoshopped pictures of several presidents and of the Pope himself has started a scandal at the Vatican.

The “Unhate” Benetton campaign photos are quite shocking. Not because the people kissing in the photos are notorious political faces, but because the couples are chosen in such ways that they would have totally opposite views and ideas.

For example, the president of the United States of America, Barak Obama, is tenderly kissing the lips of Hugo Chavez. In another photo, he is smooching Hu Jintao, the president of China.

A photo in particular made the Vatican boil: the one in which Pope Benedict XVI himself is kissing Egyptian Iman Ahmed el Tayyeb. “This is a grave lack of respect for the Pope”, said the Vatican representative Federico Lombardi in a statement, adding that not only did the campaign offended the “sentiments of the faithful”, but it has also proven how “advertising can violate elementary rules of respect for people in order to attract attention through provocation.”

The White House has not commented on the campaign photos, yet.

Benetton has apologized for the possible offense to the faithful, but added that it had no plans in altering the campaign whatsoever. The campaign’s purpose is to raise awareness that “hate and love are not as far away from each other as we think”.

Other photos used by Benetton illustrate the German Chancellor Angela Merkel kissing Nicholas Sarkozy, the president of France. The clothing company is known for its shocking campaign in order to gain contrast and taboo themes. Its advertising history includes photos of a black woman feeding a white baby, a priest kissing a nun and a patient with AIDS on his deathbed.

“Mirror, Mirror” trailer finally out

The beginning of November is delightfully populated by trailers debuts. Starting with “Snow White and the Huntsman”, continuing with “The Hunger Games” depicting the first book of the trilogy with the same name and culminating with yet another approach to the classical fairytale of Snow White in “Mirror, Mirror”.

At first glance, the two movies dedicated to re-telling the Grimm Brothers fairytale go in two different directions. Having action as common ground, Huntsman reveals a more of a drama approach, where Mirror chooses comedy.

The first spin from the original tale that “Mirror, Mirror” presents lies with the Evil Queen. Played by a radiant and vivid Julia Roberts, the Evil Queen is broke and, as such, much more interested in landing a young, powerful and wealthy suitor than being the fairest of them all. Looking stunning, Julia Roberts makes for a sassy villain who servers biting remarks one after the other. Show White’s hair isn’t black, its mere raven. Her skin is white of course but not as a sign of infinite beauty but just as a result of her being only 18 and staying away from the sun.

The producers haven’t spared one penny, setting for filming the most epic and fantastic fairy tale land ever created. Starting with the costumes and designs and ending with the sets and effects. Mirror, Mirror is aiming for taking its public to a fairy land like none ever before, populated by a perfectly royal Prince Charming, a sweet and feminine Snow White and a magnificent Evil Queen.

The movie is directed by Tarsem Singh, who is known to the film enthusiasts for his “The Cell”, “The Fall” and more recently his box-office hit “Immortals”. He is known for aiming for big, bright and bold movies, such as “Mirror, Mirror” are expected to be shaped from the same pattern. He admitted to have chosen Lily Collins to play Snow White for her lovely eyebrows.

After the old head to head movie duels like Volcano vs. Dante’s Peak and Deep Impact vs. Armageddon, Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman are set to provide some nice competition in 2012 when they are scheduled to be released.

Take a look at the “Mirror Mirror” trailer below:

Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry, to be auctioned for 30 million dollars

An important part of Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry collection will be auctioned this December in New York City and it is expected that they will be sold for about 30 million dollars. The jewels of the legendary actress went on display in Geneva on Friday.
A fine selection of jewelry belonging to late Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor is going to be auctioned this December in New York City. Among the pieces that are ready for generous bidders, there are bracelets, necklaces and tiaras given to her by her husbands and friends. One of the pieces set for the auction is a platinum bracelet with diamonds, which was a gift from Taylor’s dear friend, late pop icon Michael Jackson.

The center piece of the collection is a spectacular pearl necklace named “Peregrina”. Her husband, Richard Burton, whom she married twice, offered her the amazing piece of jewelry in 1969. Peregrina dates from the 16th century, and before becoming Taylor’s in 1969, it was worn by several Spanish and Austrian queens along the centuries. The original price that Burton bought it for was 37,000 dollars. At present, it is estimated to 2 to 3 million dollars.
The auction will be held by Christie’s and will also include a ruby and diamond ring, estimated at 1.5 million dollars, a huge 33.19-carat diamond ring, estimated at 3.5 million dollars and other highly expensive and one-of-a-king pieces. The following day, the auction continues with 269 items belonging to the star.

The auction was requested by Elizabeth Taylor’s family and a part of the money collected will go to charity, including the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, best dressed sisters

The Best Dressed Special edition of Vogue has named Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen the best dressed sisters, according to The Thread. Despite the bad rankings received by several stylists, it appears that the two blonde actresses-turned-fashion designers are extremely valued in the fashion industry.

Recently, Ashley  and Mary-Kate Olsen, the sweet blonde sisters that have conquered our hearts in the children roles that they played in the ‘90s, have been highly criticized for their taste in fashion…or better said, for the lack of it. They often appeared in the oddest combinations – flip-flops and fur coats – and seemed to be in a parallel universe when it comes to fashion.

However, Vogue doesn’t think the same way. The latest issue, a special edition of “Best dressed”, has put them on top of the top at the Best Dressed Sister category. They outsmarted British fashion icons Kate and Pippa Middleton, actresses Dakota and Elle Fanning, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles and Rooney and Kate Mara.

Vogue described the 25-year-old twin’s sense of fashion as “minimalist, nuanced, maximalist, iconic, chic, cool, instinctive and creative”, but recognized that the words used are not enough to explain the inspiration and the uniqueness of their style. “Until we are linguistically endowed with a sufficient term, original will have to do” wrote fashion editor Mark Holgate.

This winter, celebrities turn to Navajo print

If you were wondering what Hollywood will look like this winter, here it is: celebrities turn to Navajo print scarves. The first to have set the trend are supermodel Heidi Klum and actresses Jessica Alba and Megan Fox.

Do you want to be trendy during the cold season and still don’t have a clue on what type of scarves to wear? First of all, yes, you must think scarves to be in trend. Second of all, it always seems like a good idea to step out of the classical white color of winter with some colorful prints. But don’t choose beige, cream, or other colors that tend to look muddy and dusty. Choose bright colors in daring mixtures.

The Hollywood beauties have turned to Navajo tradition for inspiration. They assorted colorful blanket scarves to their casual daily outfits. Heidi Klum mixed it with an elegant dress that matches the colors and added a ladylike cardigan to go with it.

Megan Fox opted for a sporty look, mixing the colorful scarf with jeans and a T-shirt. The neutral colors of the clothing outline the ethnic print.
Jessica Alba went all-black and added an ethnic bag to match the scarf and to add more color, as well.

If you think this colorful and warm item should be in your wardrobe, too, it’s time for a shopping trip. The girls opted for the Theodora & Callum Navajo Tie All Scarf, which is 100% viscose. To get it, you have to take 175 dollars out of your pocket. Don’t fancy the price? Try other variants, by Steve Madden ( 54 dollars), or Kersh (38 dollars).

Really into the Navajo print? There are many more clothing items you can choose from: dresses, skirts, shirts, purses and even sneakers.

Olsen sisters’ $ 39,000 backpack sold like hotcakes

The alligator backpack designed by the Olsen sisters sold like hotcakes despite the hefty tag saying 39,000 dollars each.  According to Women’s Wear Daily, The Row designers said that it was the first thing that sold out.

During the launch of their new handbag collection, which took place in Paris on September 30, Ashley Olsen made the first comments about the alligator skin backpack. “It was the first thing that sold off the shelf”, she said. This was impressive, as in the last couple of years the fashion sector had to suffer as a result of the global crisis. “During our last economic crisis in the U.S., the only thing that went up was Hermes”, Ashley added.
The backpack comes in several dark colors. It has some golden hardware at the toggle and is actually the most expensive piece in their new collection, which starts from prices as high as 4,700 dollars for the smallest, simplest designs. The crocodile backpack competes with Victoria Beckham couture collection of accessories and bags and with Hermes, being in the same price range.
At Barney’s the bag was pre-ordered. Barney’s Fashion Director Amanda Brooks believes that such products are seen more as an investment than as simple accessories to an outfit. “If you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that’s the bag you should buy”, she said in an interview to Fashionista back in July. One of the main reasons is that despite the details that make it trendy, the bag follows a classic design and the quality of the materials is impeccable. “There’s enough design to make it interesting and beautiful but they truly are classic bags — and I think you also might be the only one who has it”, Brooks adds.
