Buffalo has unveiled the good-looking AirStation Extreme AC1900 DD-WRT NXT Wireless Router, which seems to be an update to the previous AirStation Extreme WZR-1750DHPD. This new router is the second router that was released by Buffalo. Compared with the previous version, this one comes with some non-working parts, for example the USB ports. This issue is because this router uses the new NXT build and not the traditional version of DD-WRT.
The new AirStation Extreme AC1900 DD-WRT NXT Wireless Router comes at the price of 200 dollars, which makes it 30 dollars more expensive than the previous model, WZR-1750DHPD. With this price the new AirStation Extreme is probably the most expensive AC1900 router on the market. To be mentioned that the company also offers the WXR-1900DHP, featuring approximately the same hardware, but comes with the company’s regular stock firmware, at the price of 170 dollars. However, the new router is quite fast, but its range is not very impressive, although it offers very stable Wi-Fi signals. This router can go for days without disconnecting at all.
The new WXR-1900DHPD seems to have potential, which makes it a great router on the market, but its main fault is probably the high price. Customers will probably think twice before buying a router that costs almost twice compared with other model available out there. The WXR-1900DHPD is probably too lacking in features to be considered a high-end router. The best option for customers may be to wait a period of time, until the price comes down, and then choose the better option. As for its design, the WXR-1900DHPD looks pretty good, coming in all white and stands vertically on a detachable stand. On one side, users can find a little cover that opens up to reveal some mounting grooves, a good feature if somebody wants to hang it on the wall.
The new router is packed with the regular 4 Gigabit LAN port and 1 Gigabit WAN port, and also two USB ports: one USB 3.0 on the front and one USB 2.0 on the back. As mentioned, these ports will not work with the current version of the NXT firmware. However, the company declared that these ports will be more useful in the future when USB-related functions are added to the next DD-WRT NXT build.
