Although Britney Spears has been overshadowed by more contemporary artists such as Rihanna and Beyonce, for example, the pop princess remains a celebrity. Her once huge popularity is still considerable enough to bring her a $15 million deal to judge the popular X Factor.
After Simon Cowell dropped X Factor judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, Britney Spears’ presence in the show’s jury is expected to be enough to raise its popularity. Although we don’t exactly have official sources that would disclose negotiations between Britney Spears and X Factor, off the record reports show that they are closing in to an agreement.
First reports made it in the headlines in early March and now off the record sources say the artist is now negotiating her paycheck for a season of the popular X Factor show. Reports say that X Factor offered Britney Spears $10 million for her time as a jury on the show, but recent news say the pop star wants $15 million.
Obviously Britney Spears wasn’t the only one to be on Simon Cowell’s list to replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Allegedly, Cowell had reached out to Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson at some time, but the reports regarding Britney Spears seem to be the most legit.
The truth is that even if Britney Spears hasn’t been exactly in the spotlight lately, she remains one of the most popular celebrities associated with U.S., music and dancing. Cowell even said earlier this year that he is fascinated by Spears because she “has resilience” and her experience with sustaining a family and a career would make X Factor “a walk in the park”.
“The fact that she’s one of the most talked about – not just pop stars, but people – in the world today means that you’ve got this star power” said Cowell adding that he’d “be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial. There’s a reason for that” .
Brad Adgate, senior vice president at Horizon Media, didn’t exactly say that Britney Spears is closing in her deal with X Factor but he did mention that Cowell is looking “for a blockbuster name that’s going to draw in viewers, particularly young viewers”.
